Goodmorning VBG Family: I just completed 2 weeks of Daily Committments using the OH VBG Forum. I lost 3 pounds each of the 2 weeks. WOO HOO!!! Today I am happy to report that my bmi is now..... drum roll..... 39.9 -- Yes it's true I am now "severly obese" -- no longer Super Morbidly Obese or even Morbidly Obese; just a mere Severly Obese! WOO HOO!! I was happy with my eating over the weekend. I really need to increase my exercise. I work a full-time job and operate a dot.com. I tend to let the dot.com take up the majority of my "free" life. So -- I have decided that I MUST exercise while I'm at work. If I wait until I am at home I will probably not get the job done. Today's committment: Walk 1 mile before leaving work....and drink as much coffee as possible; Sharon

Good Morning Sharon! Thanks SO much for thinking up 'daily commitments'! But a big thank you for the '3 day sugar detox' idea. True or not, it's keeping me focused. Trying to go 3 days with no sugar is working for me Way better than tring to go one day on the way to forever. Already I feel less sugar cravings! I did have sugar once since Friday. My BF made blackberry cobbler so I couldn't say no. Just one peice though, and last night when he offered me ice cream I said NO. I haven't lost any weight yet, but losing the sugar craving is HUGE for me. GOOD JOB ON LOSING 3 POUNDS IN TWO WEEKS!!! WOOOHOO!!! I'm so PROUD of you! Today's committment- NO SUGAR!! Tammy Make sure you drink your coffee without sugar!!! Use splenda!

Sounds like you are making good progress on your "no sugar" committments. Keep plugging away and you will get there! Excellent saying NO to ice cream. Ice cream is a weak spot for me. Can't wait until winter gets here so I won't want it anymore. I just bought some Atkins Advantage Shakes "Strawberry Supreme" at our local $ Store (they were 2 for $1) and not too bad tasting. I wouldn't drink them if they didn't have 20 grams of protein per can. However since they do I will choke them on down. That means I will have to go back and buy what is left on the shelf. I actually lost 6 pounds in those 2 weeks. I lost 3 pounds each week! Which I have to credit to the Daily Commits. I use "fake sugar" in my coffee whenever possible and non-dairy creamer. The only thing real is the caffeine. Sharon -115

I had a protein shake for lunch, this one is by totalsoy. Tastes terrible but it does keep me satisfied for a long time. I had some grapes for breakfast (oops, is that sugar?) and a sugar free chocolate bar. They are delicious! Still no ice cream/sugar cravings, but the best thing is my mood is better! Even though I have a Lot of stress right now, it's not making me irritable. I will make it through the day without candy or ice cream or cake or sweets. Maybe if I say it enough it will be true!! Happy Day! Tammy

Great job Sharon and Tammy!!! I lost 3 lbs, but it wasn't by trying. I got a stomach virus from my little cousin and spent all weekend on the toilet or bent over it I'm still not back up to normal speed but, I'm keeping slid foods down now. Hopefully I will have more energy by the end of the week. I have my pre-op testing next Wednesday. I have a question for you guys . What did you use for your scars? I usually use cocoa butter or vitamin e oil for any scars and they work great, but a couple of ladies on another forum mentioned mederma and Emu oil. I know that they are pricey, have you ever heard of them or used either one of them? Jenelle

Hi Jenelle Sorry you haven't been feeling well. Make sure you enough so you get completely over your virus. Score on the bonus weight loss though! WOW -- Preop testing -- Woo Hoo -- You are almost there! I never used anything on my scar -- I am just ignoring it. I have seen Mederma advertised on TV. Looks like it would work good?! You'll have to let me know how it works out. Have a GREAT, FANTABULOUS day! Sharon -115

Ok, another question... In general, how is the protein? I ordered some samples and had a custom blend made at The Protien Factory. I got some nectar samples that are supposed to taste like juice. Other than the Atkins shakes, what other proteins have you guys tried? Are the protien bars worth the money??

I have only had one shake post-op -- It is the Atkins Advantage Strawberry Supreme Shake -- It has 20 grams of protein per can. I wouldn't say it is "great" but it is drinkable. I have also tried Dr. Phil's Shape Up bars; they are actually pretty tasty. They have 15 grams of protein each. I have tried a number of the other protein bars and found them to be highly disgusting. One thing I haven't tried at all is the mix in water "fruity" powder stuff -- sounds like it would be good though. I generally just eat food for protein. If I concentrate on getting my protein from food I can do it. Trust me when I say it does not involve heavy, dense meats. It is more like milk; cottage cheese; cheese; beef jerky; occasionally bacon or sausage; eggs, refried beans, canned fish products, etc. That's it for me! Sharon

TADA! I haven't had sugar since Saturday night! And- yesterday I was Very good. Just A sandwich for lunch and a taco for dinner with some sugar free ice cream for desert. Maybe I'm ready to start getting my diet under control now that I've made it through a sugar detox. Being Way to busy to eat has helped too. THANK YOU SHARON!! I should try to stay away from milk and cheese (and ice cream, duh)- it makes me stuffy and feel like I have a cold. I'm still paying for the ice cream I had last night. Happy Day! Tammy

Thanks SC I will let you know how the nectar drinks turn out. I ordered some beef jerky too. They had a sale on bariatriceating.com. 3-4oz bags for 15.99. I ordered the Hot Teriyaki. I was wondering how the protein was gonna work because I'm not a big meat eater, but I love peanut butter and beans and yogurt so I should be ok. Thanks for all of the great advise Sharon. You're a life saver Jenelle
