Hi Tracey, Sorry to hear that you need to change surgeries. It must be frustrating to plan for and research one surgery only to have to have another! I am sure that you will be equally successful at either surgery. I had VBG and it took me 8 months to lose 100 pounds. I started at 340 pounds and am currently at 232. The message board you posted to is the VBG board -- There is also a "lapband" message board located at http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/surgtype-forums/LapBand/posts.html ~~ I am sure that the lapbanders will be able to give you further insight into what you can expect with that surgery. Good Luck! Sharon

I had a vertical (sleeve) gastrectomy without banding on 6/18/04. I've lost 46 pounds so far. It leaves you with a normal stomach, just a lot smaller. Mine holds about 1/2 cup. They remove the curved part of the stomach, where acid and the hormone ghrelin, which regulates hunger, energy, and fat metabolism, is produced. If you click on "search" on the bottom of my post, you can find my posts right after surgery where I explain all this in detail.
