Today I am going to exercise. I really don't want to but if I put it here and say I will -- I will. It is funny how what I put down here on daily committment keeps me committed to myself. I think I will ride bike today -- haven't done that in what 20 years???

OK Sharon, you committed, now its time to be accountable. Did you exercise today? What did you do? Yesterday I went to the gym for an hour, walked/ran 3 miles on the treadmill, kept my heart rate over 150 for an hour. Today I worked on my bike, trying to get the brakes to work right. The trick to exercising for me is doing something fun for me, like riding my bike or playing racquetball. My committment for tomorrow is NO SUGAR! Wish me luck. Tammy

Wow Tammy ~~ You are the QUEEN! I did't exercise anywhere near what you did! You GO GIRL!!!! I walked for 1 mile and I thought that was great! ...the bike has a flat tire. I am going to get it fixed and give it a try soon! It is already 7:17 at night here. I didn't make a committment soon enough for today -- so I am going to go for a short walk now to make up for it... be right back!!!! Love you guys!! Sharon

Good Luck Sharon! It's really refreshing to see your comments/replies on the message board. I haven't had my surgery yet, I'm schduled for 9/7/04, but I'm trying to lose 10-15 lbs before my surgery. I have been doing really well. When I first saw my dr in Jan about the surgery I was at 278, and now I'm at 255. Her telling me that I would heal better if I changed my eating habits and lost some weight before the surgery was all the motivation I needed. Congrats on your loss and good luck with the rest. I'm sure you'll be at goal at no time Thanks for all of the motivation and handy tips. I'll really need them in 44 days

Jenelle!! Congratulations to YOU!! You keep fighting that weight off. Your doctor is right you will heal much quicker and just think how far AHEAD you will be once you do have the surgery!! Wish that I had done the same thing you are doing! You are already doing GREAT and you haven't had surgery yet! YOU GO GURL!!! Sharon

Wow good Job Sharon!! I didn't exercise yesterday- And overate! I ate a half of an apple cobbler. Tonight I'm making another attempt at a sugar free day. I'm going to the gym tonight though. Tammy

Hey Tammy, You can DO IT!!!! Don't tell yourself you are never having sugar -- just tell yourself that you CHOOSE to not have sugar today. You can do it Tammy!! ~~ Cheering you on... I was going to make today -- No sugar -- but I had a piece of toast for breakfast with strawberry jelly on it -- so I am committing today to exercising again. I will probably end up walking. But it is good that I make this committment to yall -- at least that way I keep going and keep moving. Sharon

Thanks Sharon!! I worked on that. I had NO sugar yesterday (after eating cookies for breakfast before I read your post.) I did it! Over 24 hours with NO sugar. First time in MONTHS. I'm shaking so bad I can hardly type, but its good because it reminds me to stick to my goal. I am 'choosing not to have sugar' today too! I go to the gym today. I skipped on Tuesday (I only have a 'half' membership- so I can only go on Tue/Thur/Sat/Sun). Tonight I will definitely go!! Have a great walk!! Do you listen to music when you walk. I find that the beat really motivates me. Happy day, and thanks for your help!! Tammy

YEAH TAMMY!!! I knew you could do it!!! Proud...very proud! When I first started changing my eating habits I use to journal about how I "felt". i.e. was it painful, was it easier than I thought, did I feel proud for doing it, etc. etc. I also did that when I first started exercising. That way I could look back and see what it was like when I needed inspiration. I only listen to musi****assionally. Generally I just walk and "be" in the moment. Walking is a great time for me to think and reflect. It is kind of therapeutic (sp?). I do have some exercise videos that I would like to try out soon. My friend has been after me to join an aerobics class with her during the week (m,w,f) and go to water aerobics on saturdays. I will probably take her up on it if I can fit it into my budget. Yesterday I only met part of my goal for the day. I wanted to walk for 1 mile and drink 64 oz of water. I drank about 40 oz of water and walked for 4 blocks. Today though I intend to try again. I am working on the water as I write and want to walk yet today. I am planning to walk 6 blocks during my break today and finish off the other 6 at home with one of my dogs. Again Tammy ~~ I am so proud of you. I know that you have been struggling with the sugar. Congratulations and I hope you have a "repeat" of yesterdays success! ~~ Sharon
