OKay guys, this may be a stupid question and sorry if it is..lol, but I was reading up on open RNY's because that is what I was told the doctor I have a consult with does...well, I received his paperwork today and it said.."vertical stapled gastroplasty with gastric bypass (RNY)...is that the same as the VBG because all I can find is info on the banded..and not stapled. Thanks in advance.. Di

Hi Diana, The vertical stapled gastroplasty means that they make a small stomach pouch with the staples. The gastric bypass part means that they bypass a section of the small intestine and reconnect to the small pouch. That is my understanding of it. Hope that helped.

Thanks Janna, I was thinking along that line but I guess I am confused as to whether he calls it a VBG or a RNY...man, to many different ways to do these procedures I am finding..lol Thanks again, Di

My understanding is that an RNY is basically a VBG plus the bypass. Kris
