Can strictures kill?

I myself am in the process of having a Lap Band so I don't know too much about VGB. A wonderful friend that I met on here had VGB about 2 months ago. For the past week shes been feeling really terrible and just told me today that she found out it was a "stricture." I clicked on "library" and have a good understanding of WHAT a stricture is but I don't know how serious it is. Am I in danger of losing my friend? She doesn't even feel like speaking so I can't ask her. Thanks for your help. And please don't sugar coat your responses. I just need to know. Thank you.

Hi Grace, I think strictures can be opened up in the doctors office. I have seen alot of people talk about having a stricture and getting it fixed. I don`t think it`s all that uncommon. While the problem may be serious, I have never heard of anyone dying from it. I`m assuming she is being treated by her surgeon? Hope she feels better soon. And good luck with the lap band.

I just had my stricture fixed yesterday.... is your friend unable to keep anything down? I would say that the only "danger" from having one is if you let it go too long without getting it fixed, especially if you are vomiting a lot and getting too dehydrated. I also had some food stuck in my pouch that was 1cm around, and my opening had gone down to 4mm.... and I couldn't even keep liquids down. I'm sure glad that it's fixed!!
