I had my open VBG on 4/20/04. I dont think Im doing as well as I should be at this point. I had some issues up until last Sunday with throwing up everytime I was in an upright position. That passed but now I still cant seem to get my strength back. I feel weak and my incision is sore, so much so that it hurts to wear anything that even remotely touches it. I am running a very low grade fever, like a degree or so. I get up in the mornings and go walk, so far still cant walk far because it hurts and I feel weak and dizzy. I plan on calling my doctor tomorrow but maybe all this is normal. Just doesnt seem that way from reading how well everyone else is doing. I have lost about 12 lbs, which also seems a lot less than many on here but I figure it is better than nothing. I also seem to cry at the drop of a hat. I think that is just because I am not feeling too well. My poor husband is trying hard to be understanding but I know it is weighing on him too. I dont regret having this done, I did really well in the hospital I think, barely any pain, came home with no pain medication and was able to sleep in my bed the first night. I guess I dont have any questions just needed to get this out to someone that might understand some of the issues. It is hard to tell others because Im not sure they will really understand.

Anitra, Being sore is normal and so is being weak but if I were you I would contact my doctor as soon as possible. You don't want to get dehydrated from throwing up and I am worried about the low grade fever. Call it is important. Dianne

Anitra, I hope you've contacted your dr. A fever could mean infection. Don't worry about how much you're losing, right now you need to concentrate on getting well. All the best to you.

I did go see my doc and he basically told me nothing was wrong with me and to get out and walk more. I talked to my PCP and the RN at my insurance and they said a couple of things could be going on. When you have this surgery your body has to work harder to get to the food or something like that and it speeds up your metabolism and that could account for the fever. They told me to just keep an eye on it and see what happened. I went on Tuesday which was my 2 weeks post op date and had lost 18.5 lbs, which the doc did not even mention. He just told me I need to be walking 30 minutes a day. When I told the RN at the insurance she said that was really pretty good weightloss for 2 weeks and for me not to worry about the 30 min a day but to do what I felt I could do, even if it was 5 min at a time a few times a day. I will say the Dr is good as far as surgeons go but the girls in his office need more training in several areas and he needs some bedside manner training. Im just going to take it a day at a time and do my thing and if the fever continues or more symptoms develop then Ill just trot back in there.

hi, I was just wondering how you are doing now. I had my WLS on 4/29/04 (VBG) I am still having issues with my incision, it has 2 places that do not want to heal completely and still drain if the scab is moved around, like from coughing (I have asthma) I went through that crying stuff too during the same time mine has begun to subside though, I hope you too are doing better Please keep the faith!

Im doing pretty well. Im 5 weeks post op today and am down 35 lbs. My incision still has a bit of pain but is doing ok. If you are having drainage then you should talk to your doc. I never had any scabs. Mine actually looks pretty good. The crying jags are getting better. Im walking up to 2 1/2 miles a day and can walk a mile in 15 min now. Please talk to the doc about your incision. He may want to look at it.
