DEAR DIANNE, I TOO, HAVE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE. WHEN I WENT INTO THE HOSPITAL, MY PRESSURE WAS REALLY HIGH, 202/90. I`M USUALLY CONTROLLED AT ABOUT 150/84, OF COURSE I`VE BEEN ON MEDICATION FOR YEARS. I DID TAKE MY MEDICATION FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, WITH JUST A SIP OF WATER, BEFORE MY SURGERY, BUT IT WAS HIGHER THEN USUAL. THEY FELT IT WAS BECAUSE OF BEING NERVOUS, ABOUT THE SURGERY, THAT CAUSED IT TO RISE. I WASN`T NERVOUS, BUT I CERTAINLY WAS EXCITED. IF THEY USED THE DYMAMAP, OR THE AUTOMATIC BLOOD PRESSURE MACHING, MY PRESSURE WAS ALWAYS HIGH, EVEN AFTER SURGERY, BUT IF THE NURSE OR DOCTOR, TOOK IT MANUALLY, IT WAS SO MUCH LOWER. I UNDERSTOOD IT, BECAUSE, I USED TO BE AN ICU NURSE. TRY AND STAY CALM, AND EVERYTHING WITH YOUR SURGERY, WILL WORK OUT FINE. I HOPE THIS INFORMATION HELPS YOU. LOVE ELAINE
I had hypertension and was on medication before surgery. I took my medicine at night, so I took it before I went to bed the night before surgery. I have not had any problems since surgery. My blood pressure was good without medication in the hospital. I have not had to take any medication since surgery (6/19).
