Any hypothroidism suffers done VGB???

Just curious - I read one website doc that won't be VGB on hypo pateints and wondered why - anyone have that problem. Do you still take thyroid meds after surgery - has it helped the thryoid problem at all??? Do you think you are losing weight slower due to hypo problem?? Curious - still wavering between VGB and RNY - waiting to hear about insurance and still need to do more research and would love to hear from any of you post-ops who have had the vgb and could encourage me one way or another. I feel like I am leaning toward vgb due it lack of complications and I would like to still get pregnant possibly after surgery and thought this may be the better choice for me. I am 41 and still wanting to have children but can't consider it right now due to my weight and marriage difficulties - but always there's a hope that I might still have one or two before I am too old. Thanks for listening - would love to hear from you and get acquainted with some of you - can always use a WLS friend to lean on - not getting alot of support in this area from friends and family - everyone is so darn scared and terrified I will die.

I had the vgb surgery on June 16th. I also have hypothyroidism. Nothing was ever said about that being a problem. I asked my doctor when I went in last week if he thought that this could be my problem that kept me on a one month plateau. He said that he didn't think so. I have to go to the specialist next month, so I will have my blood work then. I was very discouraged until I went to the doctor last week. I had hit a 4 week plateau. Come to find out, I was retaining fluid, big time. I lost 9 pounds in 2 days. I have lost 43 pounds so far. I have found that I am much more successful when I walk, but I find that very hard to do. That was another cause of my plateau. I am very glad that I had the surgery. My family was very much against the RYN because of risks. The people I know who have had RYN did very well. They loose much faster and can eat more often, but I am content with my progress. I also like the fact that this surgery is reversible if you decide to do that in the future. I have had virtually no complications other than throwing up a few times when I eat too fast and don't chew well enough. Good luck on making your decision.
