Lap band to a gastric sleeve?

Hi. I am a 5'1 185 pound woman with a slipped lap band that needs to be removed.  My doctor has recommended the sleeve.  Has anyone converted from a lap band to a sleeve?  What are your thoughts given my situation?

Due to having the lap band slip I have developed a large hiatal hernia that needs to be operated on.  My doctor would like to take my band out, fix the hernia, and do the gastic sleeve surgery as soon as possible.  I'm nervous and torn about what to do. At my smallest I was 165 with the lap band and now I am only 10 pnds lighter than when I started this whole weight loss journey.  I also have PCOS and a slow thyroid.  I'm fearful that if I take the band out and nothing in it's place that I will gain weight.

Thanks for your support.

hello,

I was just sleeved yesterday. I am a conversion too. And also had a hernia and slipped band. I did NOT however suffer from any side effects. Just no restriction and flipped port. My surgeon was able to do it all at once, but your hernia and situation could be more complicated. Is your insurance paying? It might not be a bad idea to have two surgeries. I am more happy to have it out of my stomach than anything

And if you do have to wait to get sleeved, how long will you be waiting for? They put me on a really strict diet and I stuck with it (as hard as it was) and lost 12 before surgery day. I need the structure of a diet. I am either really good with food, or the exact opposite. Your doc knows what hes' doing and you never know, they might get in there and be able to take care of both!

Good luck!

The center for bariatric surgery New Jersey helped me fully prepare for this type of operation. Many people experience post-operative distress and are not able to cope with the lifestyle changes after the operation.  I know I could not have experienced the successful results without their pre- and post-counseling program. Remember, gastric sleeve surgery is not reversible so you need to be sure that you are totally ready for this.

Both the surgeries are effective, but these are BMI specific. IF someone's BMI is more than 40, then Gastric Sleeve is prescribed, or else Lap Band. Your BMI comes out to be 30.78, so you must go for Lap Band. That's what I would suggest.

I went from band to sleeve 3 weeks ago and so far it the best thing I could have done for myself.
