it is short for Vertical Banded Gastroplasty, they dont really do it anymore, for good reason in my opinion.

It is like a permenant "band" that is not adjustable.  The stomach is stapled and it is strictly restrictive.
Do a google search for images.  A lot of people are getting revised from it due to complications.

I think that is what I have.. VBG...My DR removed most of my stomach...made it a "slim banana" as he calls it...and then put a medical grade non adjustable "band" around the top 3rd of stomach...The stomach still functions as a stomach..but it is 2 chambered so to speak... and I have 50 cm of small intestine removed....

In my opionion... this is a good procedure...but not as affective to achieve significant weight loss...I am 5 yrs post op have lost 110 lbs...regained 40....

If I had the $$ I would get a revision and get something more affective...

that procedure is called a VSG you had if it looks like a banana. VBG is they staple half your stomach and do not remove it looking around VBG your stomach is stapled in half the top half feeds your food to the bottom half of your stomach by a little opening if I am reading it right. VSG is way different  they remove half your stomach and I heard it works. I am getting a VSG next month.
My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.
