5 weeks post op with nausea, hardley able to eat.

My bofriend if 5 weeks post op "vsg", He is very very nausous. Smells are incredibly strong and make him sick to his stomach. He eats about 3-4 bite's of soft mushy food and feels full.. But then feels like he is going to vomit. He doesnt..it just feels like it. He is chewing very slow...eating very slow. The protein water or liquid makes him gag.  He is having a hard time with loose stool also. Is anyone or has anyone experienced this type of thing? His doctor told him that he needed to get his protein in. And didnt seem concerned about his symptoms, so he thought this was normal.. Maybe im just a worry wort.

you might want to post this in the VSG board, they should have some answers in there for you.  Best of luck to your boyfriend.  It's better to be overly concerned than not concerned.  :)

I read on the VSG board earlier today about a woman who suggested mint. You can get at nutritional stores. Also she had a link to a place that sold it in water...check the VSG board.

Shannon, I do not think that it is being a worry wort it is just taking precautions.  I did not experience the nausea but the loose stools come and go for me and I am only 2 weeks out of surgery.  Now, everyone responds differently so take everything in stride.  I have found that the diet Muscle Milk for my protein intake works well for me, also to be sure you can get some fluid in try sugar free juice pops they tend to settle the tummy and also taste pretty good.  Just some suggestions-chicken broth and beef broth helped me alot too-I still have some every couple of days.  Let me know how it all works out and hey I am here if you need to talk!!

Seems like every day he is getting a little better, then he has a bad day! Yesterday and today are one of them. He cant stand protein shakes of any kind. It makes him almost vomit. He is able to eat a little more now. Just trying to get him to take him Vitamins like he is supposed to. I swear anyone who says that this is "The easy way out", has no flippin idea what they are talking about. There is sooo much more to this than we even knew. We thought we were so completely educated and well versed in everything. Not at all. I cant imagine going into this uninformed. Thank you so much for the shoulder.
How is everything with you? Your surgery went well I take it?
I just got the letter today from my surgeon saying I was approved I just needed to pay my portion of the surgeons fee and then I will get my date.. Bonus day today!  YEA!!!!

Yes surgery went well! I agree! anyone thinks that this is the easy way out has no idea the emotional and physical stuff that you go through.  My husband had his 10 yrs ago and it is even better now but he says he remembers all those feelings that I am having now.  I am glad that he is beginning to eat  a little more now. I will be praying for you both and please let me know your surgery date and I will keep a check on you both.  Thanks for the should it is nice to talk with someone other than family.  Kind of strange I say that but sometimes I want an unbiased opinion or thought.
