Pain Medication

I hear that Dr Almanza does not give pain medication to take home. I do not have a great tolerance for pain. I was wondering if anyones PCP gave you a prescription for Vicadan. I am not sure how my doctor is going to react period to me going to Mexico without consulting with him first. Right now I am trying to avoid telling anyone who will try and talk me out of this, which is all my family and some close friends. It took me a while to come to this decision and I had to take FMLA and an extended leave of absence from work just to get through all my mental issues about my weight and the added stress of work. Now that I have a few months off I want to do something for myself and get back on track. I am 61 years young and its time.
Thanks for listening

Who says he does not give you a prescription for pain meds? I have not heard that before. If fact it seems that someone was saying they were taking their pain meds on the way home on the plane and had trouble swallowing it. Besides you can buy most of them otc at the pharmacys down there.

I was told that they may not strong enough because they can not let you through the boarder with narcotic drugs like vicadin. Shirley told me that this morning and they are going to fax my doctor and explain that to him so he will write a prescription for a few days worth. I hope he does cause I think it will be easier to get through being sore.

I am not really worried either way. I have a very high pain tolerence. I still have the pain pills from when I broke my leg if I really need them. I am sure if you tell your pcp he will be supportive. Mine was a little concerned until he called down there and make some inquiries of his own, Now he is all for it. I am sure they will give you whatever they can.

Your primary care physician will take care of you, they take a oath to do so. I know two people who have had surgery in Mexico and they were taken care of well back home by their own doctor.
You will not be flying all looped out on meds, they are not fond of doing that I hear, but by the time you fly home, you will be doing well for the flight. I would make a apt with your own doctor the day after you get home depending upon the flight, or go to emergency, they will give you something. Be sure to let them know what surgery you have had and where.
No one is going to fault you for saving money.
Yea for you for going to look great in your 60's!!

I will be having surgery soon here in my own area! Keep in touch! I am 57, so I am right behind you!
I do know that many doctors at least here at Kaiser give liquid pain meds... I will be going home with liquid codine or vicodin or what ever my surgeon feels necessary.

Please be sure and get your doctor when you come back from surgery to get you set up for your bariattric follow up apts for your first year.
