band to sleeve

I had to have my lapband removed a few days ago due to slippage and obstruction.  i was banded on nov 12, 2009.  apparently, my stomach was in too bad of shape (due to the obstruction)to reposition it and it had to be removed entirely.  i awoke from surgery to learn this and have been pretty depressed and disappointed since returning home.  I had very high hopes for the lapband and now i feel like i am at square one again.   i am private pay, so that kind of stinks, but i am still hopeful that some type of wls will work for me.  my experience was just bad fortune i think.  my question is, has anyone else had to have a band removed and then a second surgery to get the sleeve?  i know some people have the removal and sleeve done in the same surgery. sadly, this was not an option for me.   how long were you required to wait between having the band removed and the vbg surgery?  i think my doc is going to ask me to wait six months, but i won't know for sure for a few weeks.  thanks for any input. originally, i was thinking of being rebanded (may sound odd, but the weeks following my surgery i loved the band and felt it worked well) But the more i read, i am concerned that i am at a greater risk for complications the second time around
