Revision Surgery...???

Hey everybody. =) I had my surgeon's appointment today and I guess it went okay. Apparently the surgeon I went to(Dr.Nusbaum) has had 2 dozen patients revised from Dr. Capella's surgery. So he has experience with the way Dr. Capella operated, He said that Dr. Capella definetly has a special way of doing the VBG and that it is almost a 50% failure rate. So he said he has to see what the EGD Scope comes back as. But he said he'd like to be able to revise it into a RNY but doen't know if that's possible being the way Dr. Capella operated, He said the best option was the Realize Band. Has anyone ever had a revision to this? If so please let me know more about it. I have spent all my time researching the DS. Any as my surgeon said today I am not eligible for the DS. He said it would be a disaster, and it wasn't a good idea. Nutritonally speaking.  I'm just kind of confused. If anybody could help me or shine some light on the BAND, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi. Just saw your post. Have you consulted with Dr. Greenbaum in New Jersey? He is a wonderful revision surgeon and has gotten people with horrible insides repaired and even into a working, wonderful DS? (He trained with my surgeon, Rabkin, and I have head incredible stories about him from some of his patients).

Ask on the DS and revision forums if you have not already.

Here's his info, from www.dsfacts.com:

Hi Dawn,

I had a VBG back in /87, went from 260 lbs. down to 113 lbs. by /96 after a 7 month bedrest pregnancy from hell lol I was up by /06 to 251 lbs.    I had a revision to the Lap-band and went down to my goal weight of 124 lbs in twenty months with no problems.   Research your options well and if you do go with a band expect to need patience until you have enough fills to reach good restriction to succeed.   Only go with a clinic that offers extensive aftercare in order to have great results.

Hi Dawn Finally I have found someone who knows about Dr Capallas VGB. I am a victim from 2001. And here I am in the same boat. My Dr says no to the DS. I am going through approval now and he is trying to decide what to do but is leaning towards a lap band. I have read a post from luvmyband and everything she said is true. What a disaster this has been. Please lets keep each other posted as to our DR"s decsion. Rusty

Hi Rusty Red:

I know it was a while ago that you posted this...but if you haven't had revision surgery yet, go to the revision forum...Lapband is not the way to go in all cases....I went from VBG to RNY and was successful for 18 years. I have gained some weight and I'm now having ERNY which will give me more malabsorption.

Believe me there are so many choices....Post your question on the Revision Site....You will be shocked to see all the options.
