Topic: I really need some friends/support who understand in NOVA
I had my band placed on 01/30/2009. It has been a struggle since to put it lightly. I have had about 6 or 8 months of good health and weight loss at the beginning of my journey. But I have been struggling ever since with a myriad of problems, from misplacement of my port and revision surgery to weight gain and major gastric problems.

I am really hoping there are some people out there in Virgina that either have regular get togethers, belong to a support group, or wouldn't mind starting one up with me so we can all have people to talk to that actually understand what it is we go through.

Thanks you!

I'm Tomi, I'm a 25 years young female. I had Bypass on March 14. I'm in Alexandria and looking for others in NOVA, DC or Southern Maryland in the DC Metro area that have been through similar experiences. I would also love to attend existing Support Groups or possibly start one with others. Look forward to hearing from you all! :)

I had my surgery Monday March 12th. I did ok after the first surgery but Friday evening I had to be taken to Baptist Hospital in Winston to have emergency surgery. I had developed 1 large open hernia and 2 small cluster hernias on each side plus I had a  slight blockage. Hopefully I will perk up soon.

Hello, I am from Collinsville. I have not been on this board in years. I sure hope your surgery went well. I went to Roanoke as well, but had Dr. Lucktong. I am almost 4 years post op and have not had any complications. Feel free to ask away.

REALIZE Band on 02/09/10 with
Topic: New meetup group started by lap bander with upcoming clothing swap
We started an activity group for people of all shapes and sizes in the DC, MD, VA area.  I would like to have other bariatric surgery patients as members :)

http://www.meetup.com/dc-all-shapes-sizes/

Upcoming activities include a clothing swap, free yoga class, international pillow fight day, evening of jazz, brunch, krav maga intro lesson, dinner, a trip to the beaches of North Carolina for hang gliding etc.

Welcome to the Washington DC, MD, and VA Kick A.S.S. Group where we welcome and host activities for men and women of All Shapes, Sizes (A.S.S.)! If you are averaged size or you’ve ever felt self-conscious about being the biggest girl or smallest guy (or vice versa) at an event or if you don’t think you can do something because of your weight this group will show you that you can! Whether you are secure at your current weight or looking to gain or lose weight this group is for you.

This group will plan the standard fare events like dinners, brunches, movies, clothing swaps, potluck parties, wine tastings, and museum-outings as well as more adventurous events that may challenge you in new ways, like zip lining, zumba, kickball, climbing a rock wall, taking dance classes etc. If you haven’t done those activities before the best way to start is with other newbies like us! And if you’re afraid that you might fail at an activity don’t worry we’ll all make an A.S.S. out of ourselves together. The weather is starting to get nice! Once it warms up we will have a beginner outdoor series that will include easy hikes, walks, bike rides, and camping. We’ll take it at a slow pace suitable for everyone and take breaks as needed. Love to travel? Get ready to pack your bags for the beach, weekend road-trips, and maybe Greece this year.

Topic: RE: lower bowel blockage
I just got out of the hospital with a lower bowel obstruction.   They made a huge mistake and placed an NG tube down into my pouch . They had to remove it asap . It was the most painful thing Ii have ever experienced .  I did not have to do surgery , thank God ... I have mesh that has fallen down into my intestines and they used medication to quiet down my bowels and manipulated the obstruction.

This does happen to weight loss patients .. but it iscureable . One suggestion they gave me was to keep my fiber intake up ... and to take Musalex and a probiotic .  So I started that regimine asap  .

Best to you ,

Nataie

Thank you Joe,  I am not giving up.  Just getting aggravated with the Dr's.  I found out not only do I have a fracture, I have torn my ACL, MCL and someother ligament.  The thing that is getting me is I have to wear this full brace and can't put any weight on my leg and the DR's are trying to find a specialist to handle all the damage I have done.
You are so correct, this is my second chanced at life.
