No Insurance Coverage

I would appreciate anyone letting me know how their experience was with no coverage. I work for a small family owned business. We have Southern Health and it's not one of the options my company pays for. When I called SH, they told me even if I had a letter signed by GOD, it would not be covered. I know there are alot of financing options out there, like buying a new card. But I hear that you have to have it paid in 2 years. That's a BIG payment every month. Anyone have any positive stories about self pay? Thanks a lot. I just joined OH today, so I'm jumping in with both feet!

Wow, lots of ins. saga's going on today. I have no idea exactly how your ins. company works, but mine said almost the exact thing.........NO WAY, NO HOW. I didn't let it die there. I got an "evidence of coverage" book from them. Then I looked for the part where it spoke specifically of Gastric Bypass Surgery, or Weight Loss Surgery. It was not as clear cut as they made is seem. I fought, and I fought, and I fought some more. In a year I was having my surgery and they paid for every penny. We too are self employed. The little guys they don't care much about. They said I had signed when we got the insurance against the WLS rider......I knew I didn't. Read through my profile, and fight the good fight sista!!! Sincerely, Sharon

Ooooooooooo! It's not nice to mock God like that! That might just come back to bite that insurance company right where it hurts. Remember...He's on YOUR side. Keep fighting...there's nothing to lose in that. Take it a day at a time and if it were me....in the meantime I'd be looking at the benefits guides of other companies on the QT. You might have a waiting period before coverage of that kind of surgery would become effective and it might even cost more but could save you many thousands in the long run over financing the surgery yourself. I am thankful for insurance that covers it....but it wasn't so long ago that they didn't. If I had to finance it I'd probably avoid a credit card at all cost.....a bank or credit union would be my second choice and if I could I think my first choice would be getting a home equity loan. I hear that some physicians/clinics offer financing and I imagine they do require it to be paid off in less time. Hang in there and if it's meant for you it will happen....and at just the right time in your life. Take care and good luck! amy

I'm just getting started on my WLS journey, but I had researched it quite a bit a few years ago and I read that in VA insurance companies cannot deny WLS. Has this changed?
