DS Surgeon??

I live in Appomattox, VA which is about half way between Richmond and Roanoke.  I had an RNY in 2002 at UVA and have regained half of the 100 lbs that I lost.  I never reached my goal weight.  I am interested in having a revision from RNY to DS.  What surgeons in VA are noted for DS? 

I believe Dr. Elariny (sp?) in Northern Virginia does DS surgeries.  You may also want to check on the DS board to see if anyone there has recommendations.  Good luck!

I have heard nothing but positives about Dr. Elariny and he is a skilled revision surgeon. I did lots of research and received a lot of feedback here on OH before I made my final decisionon a surgeon and revision surgery in general. Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your information.  I have been in contact with Dr. Elariny via e-mail and have a possible insurance problem.  I have Medicare as my primary insurance and his office doesn't bill Medicare.  I will have to get more information.  Have you begun your journey with him?

I too recomend Dr. Elariny. Just had my revision from lapband to DS.  He does a great job, and takes extra measures to make sure you have very little pain.  Recovery has been super smooth.  Easier than my lapband.

I have been in contact with Dr. Elariny by e-mail and he has been very helpful.  However, I have Medicare and he said I would need 12 - 15,000 up front for the surgeons fee.  This presents a problem for me at this time.  Were they any other out of pocket expenses?  Hope you have continued success. 

Dr. Sudan does the DS in Durham, NC.  I was discussing revisions with him, though, and he seems to prefer to revise RNYs to a distal RNY, which I would not want.  He does do some DS revisions, though.  If you do want to look into him, be forewarned that his office staff can be slow and a pain in the ass to deal with.  Be persistent.

There is also Dr. Greenbaum in NJ and Dr. Peters in PA.  Actually, you can go to www.dsfacts.com and check out DS surgeons in each state and contact them about revisions.
