I need more energy

So I have been managing the last few days since surgery.  I just notice that once the pain is gone (or almost gone) you have to deal with a lack of energy.  I finally figured out that I can't handle milk.  Thats why I am having such a hard time getting my protein shakes in.  So now, I am busy looking for alternatives. Isopure tastes like soap.  I am tired of the same foods, its just not appealing to me anymore.  I dropped by wendys to get a Chilli figuring that would be easier to get down and it was, but now I dont' want to look at chilli anymore.  Tonight I have to go to Famous Daves for my parents anniversary so I am going to try to pull myself together to go and will prob order mashed potatoes.  I am now taking my multi vitamins and my calcium etc so thats good.  I have lost 19lbs since I was released from the hospital 11/11.  I am really excited about that.

Anyway just wanted to post my progress and say hey to you all.

Dont worry your energy will get back to normal soon..  I have heard many stories about energy being low and most people say they get it back.  But you just had surgery you will feel weak thats normal!!! Sit back and relax

You are doing great!  It was hard for me to find a protein drink I like in the beginning also...luckily I have no problems with milk.  But as someone else said you can mix your powders with water also.  A friend of mine doesnt like milk so she only uses water.  www.bariatriceating.com has a bag of different kinds of protein so you are able to try different ones without buying the full size version of it to begin with.  That is how I started!   Some were good others werent!

As far as the energy, are you taking any kind of B Vitamin?  My nut has me on 2 different B vitamins and they do help with the energy.  One is a sublingual and the other is a liquid.  You might check with your nut about it.  Good luck!

Have you tried Lactaid milk (non calcuim type) ?     Nectar brand has several types of fruit flavors ... That was what I drank in the beginning.     Now I drink my protiens with ice & lactaid milk.    Our taste buds go in different directions.

Water down the Isopure.

If you can handle it try the sweet potato rather than the white starch potato.  Chili sounds good meat and beans ... Just make sure not too spicy.

Take it one day at a time.   Make sure you are getting enough fluids...

You are still healing and are going to be tired.  Take it easy.   Congratulations on the 19 lbs.  Makes the hurts less doesn't it?

Take care  Caroline

Hey all, my parents anniversary party went off very well. I was there atleast 4 hours but I felt decent and think that it did me some good to get out of the house.  I was prob there too long because  now I am EXHAUSTED.  On top of that my niece is staying with me as well so my 2 girls and my niece are having a sleep over camp out in the living room, they are having a blast.  They will be at it half the night but I finally had to throw in the towel and retire to my bed...I am typing this at 12:30 am and now I am going to try to settle myself down and go to bed.

Thanks for all the great advice, I will try my protein drinks with water to see if I can handle that any better.

Hey Tanya,

No energy!!! I can remember those days, but it will get better. I had the same problem with the protein shakes. I tried them all kinds of ways. Be sure to check with your nutritionist, they have great suggestions for you.

Tanya,

It is natural to have no energy at this stage because your body is still recovering from surgery and you are not eating a lot of calories - try to make sure you are taking your B12 sub-lingual and B complex and vitamin pills to help you - and you may need to take iron pills too - check with your doctor and nutritionist that you are taking enough vits.  And try to get some rest too - your body needs it! I had a hard time with protein in the beginning too and thank god for the protein bullets. It has always tasted nasty to me! But unflavored Unjury in chili etc always helped me get more protein into my system which helped.

Now I have started taking chocolate EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control protein shakes - which in the beginning I hated the milky shakes. Your tastes do change so don't buy a lot of anything because you could go off it pretty fast.

19lbs is awesome! You are doing great!!

Tanya - you are doing great, the energy will come back as you heal.  I liked refried beans at this stage.  Also, have you checked out www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com :?  there are a lot of good early out recipes on there.  So glad to see you here!  lys
