Does anyone have tricare standard and if so what has been your experience with the insurance?

I have tricare prime and have had no problems.  l had a small delay when l left my original doctor at Mary washington because they were stringing me along and then closed their program.  lt took a couple of months to transition over but it was easy and l was well taken care of.  Hope this helps.

Thanks Tina,  My problem is that Tricare Standard does not preapprove.  You have to sign that you will pay for the surgery if tricare does not.  Dr. Halmi office feels certain tht they will pay since I have sleep apnea, but it is scarry going into surgery not knowing for sure.

I have Tricare Prime. They told me I had to be 100 pounds ovevweight plus comorbitities, have 6 months of supervised weight loss with doctor. I did not use Tricare because I was not 100 pounds overweight. The Tricare rep said that is would have been approved if i was 100 pounds. From my search I found that more people took Tricare Prime than Standard.
As of 12/10/10 CW: 150 pounds Lost: 52

That is scary Debbie.  I guess l would call and talk to Tricare to get some straight answers so that you can proceed without the burden of cost hanging over you.  Good luck - hope you get the approval very soon!
