Anybody miss me yet?
Go**** seems like I've been gone for a month!!! I've missed everybody but my goodness, I've been busy.
I'm happy to report that a minimum of family drama has occurred...a new accomplishment for this clan...lol.
Dad's funeral was yesterday. Aside from a very poor turnout (which surprised us all!) & a horrible military honors ceremony by the Coast Guard, & the music that was supposed to have been played by the funeral home never happened (they couldn't seem to get us out quick enough!), he still had a halfway decent service.
Afterwards, while the rest of the family dragged themselves back to their respective motel rooms (because they all got tanked up the night before), Mike & I headed for Old Town St. Augustine where we went on a romantic, relaxing horse-drawn carriage ride over cobbled streets. Then we perused some quaint shops, ending the day with dinner at a beachy restaurant where we listened to live music, chomped down some fabulous chili & iced cold ice tea.
This morning we checked out of our motel, had breakfast at Dad's favorite breakfast joint (where I promptly up chucked my food), then we headed up 95 to Savannah. We checked into our motel, didn't bother to unload the car, & headed for the waterfront. We again perused the shops, bought a few momentos, then Mike surprised me with a dinner cruise where we ate a wonderful meal, took a turn around the decks, danced a bit, & cuddled alot. Tomorrow we're headed for a museum he's wanted to stop at for years, then on to Fort Jackson where he participated in a cw reenactment (back when he portrayed Navy), over 20 years ago! Not sure if we will try to head home after that, but I'm gonna encourage him to stay one more night, then start out fresh Tuesday morning.
Jill, you will be very proud of me...in spite of sometimes excrutiating pain in my back & hips, I have walked MILES this past week!! I believe I will be drugging myself up real good for tomorrow's festivities, but that's ok...I'll still be walking!!! Not sure what my weight will be when I get home...almost afraid to look. We haven't had a fridge or microwave until tonight so I couldn't bring left overs home & I'm pretty sure I over ate a few times, but I COULD get lucky, right? LOL.
All in all, I'm soooo glad the hard stuff is finally over & I really think Mike needed this fun time to decompress. He's not used to having to think & rethink things before he speaks, but he did a phenominal job of making sure no trouble was stirred up. While the funeral, itself, was a no brainer (Dad thought ahead & prepaid for EVERYTHING!), we've all been putting our thoughts together, figuring out what needs to be done...stop his military retirement pay, stop his social security benefits, turn off his cell phone, etc. The biggest buggaboo is what to do with his condo. There's a tennant in it at the moment, but the "boys" haven't decided what to do with it...keep it, sell it??? Somebody needs to talk to a tax person for some good advice. As for me...I'm Switzerland!! Except for a few rare moments, I've kept my mouth shut, except to Mike in private. I got 3 strong-willed boy-men on my hands...I ain't gettin' in the middle of THAT!!
Ok, so I'm totally pooped out so I'm hitting the shower then off to dreamland. Can't wait for tomorrow's adventures. Lotsa love to you all & I know I haven't said it near enough, but on behalf of the entire Scholl Family, thank you so much for your condolences...I passed them on & they were appreciated. Night night!!
Until then you and Mike have a great time.
