Hello. Its been a while since I've been posting here but I have a new hope and need to get re-connected. I am consulting at a company who possibly might hire me and their health insurance covers some procedures, like the lap band or RNY or Dudoneal Switch, so If I get hired, I will be getting something done. I will use Dr. Michael Schweitzer up at Johns Hopkins. I met with him last year but my old companies insurance didn't cover bariatric procedures. So I kinda dropped off the board. Well I have a new hope now and am excited to see what happens.

So If you are in NOVA then let me know what resources are around.

I live in Leesburg, VA.

Welcome back Jack! I'm not on here too often, but thought I'd try to answer this one for you since I was looking around this AM.

Sally Myers, a WONDERFUL nutritionist that is/was affilitated with Dr. Anez's office runs a group for any and all WLS patients, or those considering the procedure (any type). They meet on the second Monday of the month (so the next one would be April 13).  I try to go when I can, but work keeps me away most months unfortuantely. Here are further details:

Location:  Sully Governmental Center, James McDonnell Room
Address:  4900 Stonecroft Boulevard, Chantilly, VA  20151
Time and Day:  2nd Monday of the month, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Contact person:  Sally Myers, RD, CPT    703-859-6045,
[email protected]

Directions:  Take route 66 to Route 28 North.  Take the Westfield Blvd. West exit off Route 28 North (approximately 2 miles).  Make your first right on Stonecroft Blvd.  The Government Center will be on your immediate left.  Enter through the main doors in the front of the building, the room is to the right.

It is a privilege to use this room.  Do not loiter in the hallway or lobby outside the room. These areas must be kept clear at all times.  Come directly to the room and come on in.  We do not want to lose this privilege.

There will be clothing exchanges at all meetings.  Staple Club is open to gastric bypass patients regardless of surgeon.  Friends and family are welcome!  In case of inclement weather, the meeting will be cancelled.

Welcome back.  The Fair Oaks hospital staff also has one or two groups.  Their info is available on the hospital website.

I go to the support group meeting in Chantilly Christina R. already mentioned. There are a handful of us DSers that attend this meeting.

I just had my DS by Dr. Schweitzer on March 27. I think he is a fabulous surgeon, but please be aware he is trying to change over to a new policy where he does all DS surgeries in 2 stages instead of all at once. His office staff is a mess (especially the insurance coordinator), and he is already scheduling DSes into August right now, so that whole practice is a bit of a mess for the DS. If you do decide on a DS, I recommend seeking out a more stable DS surgical environment, maybe Dr. Greenbaum in NJ or Dr. Peters or Bonanni in PA. I love Dr. Elariny in VA also, but he is out of network for the DS no matter what insurance you have, so it's a pretty penny.
