Really Bad Night - ANy Ideas?

Hi guys!  Good morning!

I had a really bad day yesterday.  I am working on my third week after Open RNY.   I have been following my doctor's program, taking my vitamins, getting in all my liquids, and exercising.

Last night I had a really tough time sleeping, my incision site just hurt.  It seems like the pain  was inside and out and very sensitive and tender to the touch.  It doesn't look infected or anything like that and I am not running a fever.

At about 5:00am, I woke to burning from my throat all the way down to what I think is my pouch.  It was so painful I was crying.  I do have acid reflux but this was worse than anything that I have ever experienced before.  It was so bad.  And I am literally exhausted today.

Here is what I ate yesterday:
B - Greek Yogurt
L - Protein Shake
D - 1/4 cup of canned tuna with light mayo
I also drank lots of water and added New Whey Liquid Protein to my water

Has this happened to anyone?  Could it have been something I ate?  Any ideas?

Hey Sharon. I am sooo sorry that you are experiencing this. Not sleeping is all too common after WLS. Even though I'm not as far out as alot, I still, at 9 months out, have a horrible time sleeping. I'm like a wild woman, all over the place.

As far as the pain. I've never experienced anything like that. And haven't had any acid reflux since surgery. Before anything, I would call your surgeon. They may want you to be seen to rule out ulcers or anything else that could be going on. With you being so close out, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Please keep us updated as to what it is. Hope you get to feeling better.

It sounds like Acid to me.  I never had it before surgery and now I do and it's painful, so it might be that it's gotten worst since surgery, maybe give your surgeon a call today.

Sharon.

Absolutely call your surgeons office...don't wait until Thursday and suffer.  I was on prevacid for 6 weeks after surgery to prevent this and also took carafate to aid in not getting ulcers.  It does sound like you are having acid reflux.  I would try propping yourself up a little more during sleeping...maybe use a recliner for a night or two?  Feel better soon!

Yes, I just spoke to the Bariatric Coordinator and that is what she said too.  Oh my go**** hurts so bad.  Even my clothes lightly brushing across the incission hurts.  Wow, who would have guessed.  Was it like being on fire?  That is what I had too.

I think I got a combination of that and acid.  I have been on protonix but they just prescibed me a liquid form.
