Plastic Surgeons in No.VA - Balancing Price with Quality?

I am 4 years post-op and am just starting to entertain the idea of plastic surgery.  I have a list of Board Certified Plastic surgeons in my area.  My question is:  Is there a website that lists what different doctors charge for the same procedure?  My fear is that I choose Doctor A who charges $8000 for a tummy tuck, when Doctor B only charges $5000 but is just as well-qualified and maybe just spends less on advertising.

There seems to be two "gods of plastic surgery" in Northern VA.  Dr. Bitar and Dr. Krieger.  This is based on their substantial marketing efforts, and are the only two doctors on this site that are reviewed at all.  Should I expect these more well-advertised doctors to be more expensive simply because of their relative fame or does the fame and being well-advertised indicate that they are a better choice regardless of how expensive they are?

I know there are other things to consider, but I just wish I knew what every doctor was charging so I knew if they were all about the same or there are drastic differences, and if so, why?

Thanks,
Nick

Nick, unfortunately, I have not been able to afford plastics yet.  However, if I am ever financially able to do so, Dr. Krieger is my surgeon of choice.  Several of my friends have used him and they have literally raved about his work.  (and they have actually let me see the results).  Others have even travelled from other areas for his work.

It is my feeling that making a change such as this to your body is not just about the price, but how you feel about the results for the rest of your life.  Obviously, if we were happy with the way we looked, we wouldn't even consider plastics.  So you want a good result.  Just so you know, I don't believe any plastic surgeon will charge you for an initial consult, so you should take your time and see several.  Then you can make up your own mind.

Oh, and I think there's a plastic surgery forum on this site, so you might get some useful information there, too, even if you're only interested in NoVa.

Good luck to you whatever you decide.

Thanks Gail,

Yes, I posted the same message to the plastic surgery message board too, to increase my odds of responses.  Thank you for your recommendation of Dr. Krieger.  As I continue on my research, I see it's probably going to come down to if I can find a doctor that has a financing plan that allows for 18 months with no interest.  I just checked Dr. Bitar and he only allows for 3 mo. no interest, which wouldn't help me.  I haven't checked Dr. Krieger yet, but that's next on my list.  Thanks again!

Nick,

First of all I wanted to welcome you to the VA site!  I have not see  you post before.  I will be four years post op in April.  I have not had plastics however I have chosen Dr. Krieger for when I do.  I was planning on having some this year but a baby changes everything.  So in the meantime I am putting away $50 here and there to be able to afford it.  I know insurance will cover some if it but not all of it and I want to make sure that the baby is old enough since I won't be able to lift her for a bit after the surgery.  I will get it when the time is right.  I aftee that they are pricy but I also agree that you pay for what you get and you ultimately have to be satisfied with your choice.  I would consult aroud if I were you.  There is an excellent PS here in Richmond that I would use were Krieger not available.  Dr, Zinsner is fabulous!  Good luck!

Friend use Dr Goldburg who is in the same office as Dr Krieger.  I saw his work, incredible!  He is an artist.   Best work I have ever seen.    Good luck.

Hi Nick,

I had plastics and I chose Dr Krieger based on seeing his results  - and I have not been disappointed - he is an excellent surgeon  - to many of us he is a GOD - and I would do it all again with him as my surgeon.  His charges are pretty good - not the cheapest and not the most expensive - but you have to ask yourself if you want an excellent result with references or a cheaper result with no references.

I have also met Dr Bitar and although I have not seen his work first hand, I am sure he is also an excellent surgeon.

It is free to shop around, so I would suggest you go for a free consultation with each surgeon you consider  - then you can decide which surgeon you like....

Also they have web sites with charges advertised or you can just call and ask....
