Well, I can't believe its that time already. I start my liquid diet today, 5 cans of High Protein Slim Fast a day till surgery, Jan 21!. Can't believe its finally that time. I hope I can stay strong and don't get hungry. Keep telling myself, its only head hunger, drink water, hope my stomach gets the message!!  Wish me luck.

Thanks,
Barb

surprisingly i was not hungry on the protein shake "diet". Also I was allowed to replace one shake with a high protein meal bar from slim fast so I could "chew" I honestly didn't always get in all 5 shakes a day...The focus from food changes pre op with Dr. Barker.

Food stopped being the focus of my life...it is now something I have to remember to do. It's more of a chore now...I know I found it hard to believe at first, but it's making my life so much easier.

I check in here several times a day so feel free to ask me any questions that might come up.

Thanks, did you use the premade shakes or mix your own with skim milk? I have tried both and find I am better satisfied with the premade, but they are pricey, so I am trying to use some of the high protein slimfast powder. Taste is ok. I guess its more head hunger, just the worry that "I might get hungry!" stupid huh? I had my shake for breakfast and have one waiting for lunch, and have sugar free jello and water at my desk. May run out at lunch time to the store for some bars to have "just in case. Can't believe its finally time!!!!!  I sure hope the focus will change for me too, more worried about dinner at home at night when my family sits down. Even though its just my husband and mother, I don't know whether to drink my shake with them, or go upstairs while they eat. Its our time together so I don't want to miss it, but don't want to be tempted by my moms cooking either!!. I guess it will just take a few days to get in the swing. Have my real preop with Dr. B this Friday at 3:15 to sign the papers, etc, so I guess its really and truly happening!

Talk soon, will PM you.

Hey Barb,

I had both the powder and the premixed shakes and found the premixed to taste better. I actually found that I liked the EAS Advantedge shakes better then the slim fast and upon comparison they had a little more protein and fewer calories them what Dr. Barker suggests. Plus they are CHEAPER..LOL

I chose to drink my shakes with my family at the table. I didn't want to feel like I was being punished. It did work out for me and you will in time stop focusing on food...it's crazy to believe that now I'm sure, but soon enough you will have to set you watch so you don't "forget" to eat...seriously.

I have my 3 month follow up with Dr. B next week..I'm excited to see what their scales say.

Hi Barb,

You can do this! Like Christy said " it does get easier along the way". i had to do two liquid diets to get where I am now, and believe me it is well worth it! What I did at dinner time was exchanged my HPSF shake for a HPSF meal bar and I ate very small pieces and chewed and chewed! It took me longer to eat my supper than the rest of my family! Hope this helps you some through your preop diet.  Best of luck to you.

Barb, you can do this and know that it is more difficult now than after surgery.  For most of us, after surgery,  you are really not hungry at all so you do not even want food. And this is a really good time to shrink the liver so your surgery will be easier and they can't accidently nick it.... causing complications....

It is tough but remind yourself of how much you want this surgery and it is just a little sacrifice to make.....

We are all rooting for you!    Go Barb, Go Barb, Go Barb!!

Thanks everyone! Your support means alot to me. I keep telling myself, others have done it, you can too. Its worth the end result!!, and Mama, I shouldn't complain, like you said, you had to do it twice!! Yikes! I hope that doesn't happen to me, I've got my leave already scheduled and my temp coverage in place. If I get changed I'll really have a problem.
Its lunch time now and I'm ready for my shake, but will augument with some yummy looking green sugar free jello......
