I am sure that this has been talked about before but, I am looking into self pay options now, and i was wondering if any body knew of any loan programs. I am tired of dealing with CRUMMY Optima insurance.

Preciate the help.

Hi Errick, have you called Optima and talked with them?  I have Optima and they were very reasonable to work with.  If you have any questions let me know.  Welcome!!

Hey Jennifer. I have tried to talk to Optima for years. Im an educator in Portsmouth, and through our Optima Insurance, there is a strict exclusion from obesity surgery. They told me that  my job had to purchase an obesity rider.  The surgery with Dr. Yancy is 15000 dollars. Im just going to have to do what I have to do.

From an insurance standpoint...even if the rider is not purchased they HAVE to approve it if it meets the medical necessity guidelines.  A call to them is worth it.  Let me know if you need any help!

Optima's office is here in Virginia Beach (show up, they love that ) Like Tam says, talk to them, don't let up.  ask your PCP and any specialists you see to write letters.  I was working through that process with Anthem and then switched insurance.  It doesn't hurt to fight and annoy!! From what i've read on other boards what Dr. Yancey charges is relatively low, but he is awesome (i'm not biased at all towards the man who saved my life am I?) Maybe talk with Dr. Yancey about payment options?  I know it's frustrating, but don't ever give up!! Here's an idea, tell people that for christmas and birthdays that instead of gifts you'd like donations toward your surgery (hey it's worth a shot right) Also, I know Virginia Beach schools insurance covers both RNY and Lap-Band, perhaps looking at another city for employment is an option?

Hey Errick!  I think there is a lender or something named Care Credit.

Good luck!
