I also think the fee is dependant on what surgery you are going to have .... My Dr charge 100.00 less for RNY.     I was not told about the program fees upfront.   Lesson learned.

My doctor (in NoVA) charged $250 program fee....this covered my nutrition program and the physical therapist I had to see for my exercise program (required by my insurance). The after surgery cost for me were around $1500 because of the 10% not covered by insurance and my anthesia guy (who was not in my plan).

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for responding.  The after amount that insurance doesn't cover though you can make payments on right????  My issue was the big chunk up front on first DR. visit and it wouldn't be that bad if I could make payments on that too.  Guess I can check around and if all else fails start saving lol.   Thanks, Kerry

HI   I have Optima Health it covered my gastric by pass with Dr. Clark. He charged me $725. out of pocket. I had to pay $350. before the surgery and afterwards I paid the rest.  He will work with you, if you need to make payments, call Ruthie at Drs. Clark office and talk to her, I am sure they can work with you.
Good luck

I paid $750 in program fees.  Then about $300 for the preop diet.  And about $260 was not covered by the insurance for the doctor.  But you know what??? Worth every single penny!!!!  I would pay it all over agian if I had to.

Yes I totally agree it is well worth it and if I had the money to lay down all at once today I would.  I just wish I could make payments I can't afford a chunk like that.  Thanks, Kerry

I paid less than $100.00 total out of pocket.  This is for the co-pays and co-insurance, too.  I work for an insurance company so let me know if you  have any questions that I can help with.  My surgeon does not charge a program fee at all.  I have heard most range from $300.00 to $3000.00.

Congradulations on the baby and weight loss Wish I could go to Richmond for it but it's too far to travel back and forth for all those appointments to save on the program fee.  I wouldn't have such an issue with the fee if I could pay in installments but all at once on the first visit and it's non refundable is alot and totally impossible right now.  I'm not going to have this insurance forever so with having Optima Family care and it covers 100% I need to jump on getting it done and the only thing stopping me is the silly fee.  Take care, Kerry

Kerry,

In the event of traveling they usually try and schedule all appointments on the same day for you.  I was not traveling but had to take off from work and they did it for me!  Let me know if I can help in any way.  Also, remember most insurances "renew" or "reset" on January 1 so your coverage may change then!  Thanks!  We are happy about the baby and I am proud every day of the weightloss, too!

Kerry-

I just had lap band surgery done by Dr. Clark on October 27th.

With the $720 fee, I had to pay $360 before the surgery and am now paying on the balance.  I still owe $180 and we are allowed to pay in installments when we can.  As long as you are paying and making an effort to pay something, they have no problem.

You should call the office and speak with Cat, who is the insurance coordinator and I am sure she will work with you.  As long as they understand the situation, they are very helpful.

Hope it all works out for you.

Ebonie
