Support Groups in Richmond

I'm shocked that your surgery center did not tell you about what support groups they have available!  Perhaps it is because they figured you would not travel that far to attend?  Even so, I would think it is part of their program to let you know all the resources they have available to you.

Should you like to attend my group, it is the third wednesday of the month at VCU/MCV Hospital downtown.  We usually have a RNY group of 15 or less and when they do the combined Lapband and RNY months we have maybe 20-25.  It is a smaller group, but we are tight knit and have several "regular" members who you get to know over time.  Also because of the size we are able to take time to share and ask questions in addition to the months topic.

Good luck finding a group that meets your needs.

Gotcha!  I misunderstood your original post.  From what the ladies here have told me there is a support group every week!  I couldn't believe it!  I still have yet to catch one myself.  I figure they won't mind another surgery center patient attending, after all, we are all looking for knowledge and support.  I hope the Richmond area people respond and let you know what the types of meetings are and which ones are the "goodies".  :)

Hey Lauren. My surgeon's office has their support group at St Mary's. It's the support group that has meetings every week, some weeks there are actually 2, because they do one on the 2nd Monday for lap band patients. The 2nd Thursday every month is "Forever Thin", which is the one that is open to all surgical patients, pre op or post ops. The 1st & 3rd Thursday is the emotional and behavorial support and the 4th Thursday is the nutritional support.

I usually go to the "Forever Thin" and one of the behavorial groups. If you would ever like to visit our group, I'd be happy to meet you there. Hope you are doing well.

And now I amd part of the OH support group as well you may check with Jackie Thodos as well she is a great mentor and would be glad to give you any pointers to help as well and If I can be of assitance I would love to help you in any way I can. I love my girls and guys and we meet every month for lulunch and we catch up with Jackies group up in Fredericksburg from time to time and hope to get up with the Richmond girls soon. So give out a shout anytime hun. Joe has one going as well and Im sure will be of great help as well.
