Is there a guide to safe insulin reduction following bariatric surgery?  I am out of the country and coping on my own for a while.    I cut all my insulin in half 15 months agot, right after surgery.  My fasting numbers have started to go down again but I'm not sure the best way to start reducing the insulin again, particularly the Lantus.

I was not a diabetic preop but I wanted to wish you well.  Of course my suggesstion would be to consult a doctor.  You want to do things the safe way!

Hi there. I was, well am still, a diabetic. Before surgery, I was on 4 shots, 1000 units a day. I haven't had any insulin since the day I came home from the hospital, 4 days after my surgery. Of course, all this is monitored by my endocrinologist and my WLS surgeon. I do not recommend adjusting your own insulin. I would absolutely discuss this with a doctor as diabetes is nothing to play around with.

Also wanted to welcome you to the boards. Congratulations on your surgery and hope that you can find the answers that you need and want!

Good am,

I would highly suggest contacting your doctor and getting his/her advice. I personally cannot answer your question. Each person and situation are different and what works for them may not work for you or I. All best!
