Hi Kat...
1.  I typically eat cheese of any kind. no probimo. My favs are cheddar, parmisean and mozza. Cheese sticks (polly o mozzarella string cheese) they are quick and easy to take to work in my lunch box.
2. I eat the No sugar added food lion brand yogurt. I like the vanilla the best.  I eat usually 1 a day. (or more) Another easy one to throw in my lunch box.
3. I can not stand the smell of eggs. I can eat a bite or 2 out of the yoke with a piece of toast, but usually I pass.
4. I can not eat tuna! I get hungry for it, but it does not like me. I get a stuck, sick feeling if I eat it. I do not dump, but I feel really bad if I try to eat it out of a can mixed with mayo or not.
5. Fruit. I can eat a few bites of soft fruit at a time (bananas, strawberries, peaches) . I usually eat about a half of a banana a day.  I can not eat hard fruit such as apples (they hurt) If I eat too much of any fruit... I kinda dump. ( I dont dump very often)
6. I can eat veggies, I usually eat them cooked (green beans are one of my favs) but I have to be carefull of eating them raw. Things like raw carrots, brocolli or peppers can hurt .(A mixed salad will not hurt)
7. I can eat ground beef with no problem. Most everything else will make me feel lousy. I can eat chicken breast if it is cooked really tender... I have trouble with steak, pork or any thing that is grilled with that kind of texture.
one thing that I know is I may have trouble due to the fact that I have a bad habbit of NOT chewing my food like I should. I know that sometimes I eat too fast and do not chew..... That in its self can cause troubles for me. So I do not know if some of my meat problems are from not chewing enough. It is really hard to chew a piece of steak or pork up really well.... ya know what I mean????
My bad habbits are eating carbs... I am a carb junkie! I am on a continous roller coaster of highs and lows due to carbs. I know that it is not on my WLS diet... but I dont know how to turn off the cravings.

Good luck...
Cath

Thanks for your reply Cath! I used to eat mozza cheese sticks ALL the time. Then for Drucilla decided she wasn't thrilled with them so I stopped eating them. Maybe I'll give them a try again. Oh really? I hadn't thought about the Food Lion brand no sugar added ones. I don't care for vanilla yogurt period but I'm sure there are other flavors. So, I will look this Friday when I go for groceries again. Ah good to know I'm not alone with the egg thing. We are almost the same with tuna only I WILL puke its only a matter of when. I dump off fruit too but I do find the more natural/fresh the fruit the better it settles. Watermelon is NOT a good one for me. Its the highest in natural sugar and I will dump off a couple pieces. I eat bananas but not often maybe once a week. Strawberries are great a few at a time. For veggies I DO NOT eat them uncooked at all. I basically steam them or crockpot them with soups. Salads are scrumptious for sure. Thanks for the luck wishes. I'll tweak things and hopefully get some place. :)

MY TURN!

1) Cheese - I typically eat mild cheddar or sharp cheese either in cubes or I cut pieces from the block. I prefer to cut from the block.  I also eat shredded cheese a lot (put it on most everything...get the huge bags from Costco) and eat string cheese, too  I do love the sliced cheese as well.  Frogger really craves cheese and mayo sammies...so we have one almost daily!

2) Yogurt - I heart yogurt. I too am a "flavor" gal. I love the different flavors but for some reason lately have been sticking to my favs. What type of yogurt do you eat? I stick to yoplait light, Kroger carbmaster if I go there and Fage.  I CAN NOT eat fage by itself.  I have to "doctor" it up.  I add some sweetner of some kind and some fruit.  Pineapple in this is my favorite!  It is really thick and loaded with the good vitamins that we need.

3) Eggs - Most of the time I love them but it i**** or miss with if I can tolerate them.  I can not do scrambled in any form.  They are always over medium with cheese melted on top (mexican blend of shredded is my fav here) and pepper.  Sometimes some garlic salt, too.  I mash them all up and enjoy.  I get hooked on boiled eggs a lot and will eat two daily for weeks on end!

4) Tuna - I Heart tuna!  I am really missing it now though.  I love tuna and mayo wraps.  My fav way to make it is to put it in the chopper to make it smaller then mix with mayo and some finely shredded cheese (again, mexican works great here) and make a sammie or wrap then put it in the skillet with a tiny bit of I can't believe it's not butter (the spray kind) like I were making a grilled cheese.  The cheese melts all the way thru like this and the entire family loves them.  I will add celery and red onion at times and sometimes some boiled egg.

5) Fruit - For this I just pick and chose what looks good.  I know that good food is going to cost so I don't look at that as much.  I stay away from apples...unless I have "scraped" apples...like my mom used to make for me!  I can get you some good recipes if you want them.

6) Veggies - same as 5...whatever looks good.

***Costco carries good veggies year round.  I get them and freeze since the quantities are so large.  Kara eats a lot of them with me.

7) Meats - I can tolerate things most people can't and they can tolerate things that I can't.  I do good with steak.  Other than that...it i**** or miss.  Chicken bake is good for me...moist and has peas and corn or carrotts and green beans.  This also has provolone cheese and is good on protein.  Would you like the recipe?  I can only do hamburger if it is really lean and cooked right...has to be super moist!

Hope this helps some.

Thanks for replying Tammy!

I really am thinking this is an aversion to "yellow" cheese right now. I ate ONE slice of provone as a snack and that was just about 35 minutes ago and its done fine. Go figure. I don't seem to have issues with the shredded cheese either. I suppose I just need to get it in my head that I it melts and is versatile as well.

I used to eat Breyer's Light then switched to Yoplait Thick & Creamy Light. I THINK that could be it too. For what ever reason they are making me sick. Sometimes I need to stick to things I know and not switch cold turkey. Then again, at least its easier to see what is affecting me that way. I have not actually shopped at Kroger EVER. Yes, shocker I know. So, I think I will make a trip and see for one weeks regular shopping and if its reasonable I'll try it more often especially since they seem to carry sales quite regularly and on things we actually eat.

I am seeing a theme with some feedback from you and others and that is flavoring the eggs. I'm going to TRY it and pray that it works out.

Ugh! We've had the "tuna" talk. I wonder how many years is enough before I give up? Let's be serious I'll be 6 years post op in January. Tuna has YET to truly work out. Just like steak. :(

If I peel apples and let them soften up a bit (cannot deal with them hard as a brick) then I'm ok. I'll eat grapefruit, pears and bananas. At times even honeydew and cantaloupe at times. I love pomegranate from time to time and definitely kiwi. All peeled and again just about room temp. Just need to change things up a bit.

Good idea about Costco. We've got a card I need to make better use out of it.

Ugh on the meat. I'm calling it a day! LOL!

Let me lay this out for you....I CAN NOT afford to shop at Kroger on a regular basis for groceries.  My bill is ALWAYS substantially higher.  I only go there for quick items, sale items or things they ONLY sell there.  Please price compare BEFORE you get to the register...i don't want to visit you in the hospital after your heart attack!  They are really high in my opinion.  I usually take their ad to Wal Mart and have them price match just so I am not tempted!

And you KNOW how I feel about Costco...am there several times a week!  It is a large investment right out of the gate...but the food lasts a lot longer so I have time to replenish the bank account.  We could split some items if you are interested!

HAHAHA its ok and I'm not laughing at you but honestly I just meant to PRICE things NOT buy things. I KNOW better! The Costco deal is MUCH better for us both to discuss.

1.  Cheese:  I do sliced cheddar or cubed cheddar.  I don't have any problems with cheese so have no suggestions there

2.  Yogurt:  I eat one yogurt a day.  Breyers Light in Black Cherry is my favorite, if they are out I get blueberry or strawberry in that order.

3.  Eggs:  I have a hard time with eggs if I rush.  If I sneak an egg down too fast it's an almost guaranteed trip to the bathroom.  I used to love hard boiled but they are so dry for me that I don't do them very often at all.  I will usually prepare them over medium or mocrowaved (poached like).

4.  Tuna:  I've only eaten tuna a few times since surgery and it was heavenly just to taste something new for a change.  I had to adjust how I prepare it though.  I always like a very dry tuna salad (very little mayo), now I need it to be wetter to get it down.

5.  Fruit:  I eat pinapple, strawberries, plums, apples, grapes, watermelon, cantaloupe, cherries, nectarines, and oranges.  I do one piece of fruit per day based on availability and season.  We are coming into the fall and winter months so I will have to switch exclusively to apples or oranges.  During the summer months I enjoy nectarines the best, second best a black plum.  Fruit is where I get my sweet "fix".  It's what makes me happy, sugar wise.  Natural sugar that is.

6.  Veggies:  Green beans, red skin potatoes, carrot (only if mushy), broccoli (but not much unless it's in a sauce and not dry), squash, zucchini and mushrooms (is that a veggie?  I guess so)  LOL  :)

7.  Meats:  I consider myself one of the lucky ones I don't have any meat intolerances other than now preferring dark chicken meat over white.  I pretty much don't touch white meat or any dry prepared me.  And I can NEVER reheat meats.  It's like tempting the fate of the porcelain god.  LOL

I love black cherry in Breyer's Light. I am going back to Breyer's Light. I do think the culprit yogurt wise might be my having switched from that to Yoplait cold turkey. Same for me on the eggs. I don't know why but oranges make my tummy ache. Has been that way since I've been able to re-introduce them back into my eating plan. Its been a while since I've had new red taters. Hmmmm sounds REALLY good right about now. Meats are just meanies!

I use Ken's Light Balsamic Vinaigrette on meat that is too dry (fish, chicken, beef). I put some on some Costco chicken salad and lettace tonight.
