Hi Kathy,
I am new to the site and considering lap band surgery if insurance finally approves it.  My problem is that my husband, because of fear of complications and because of his non-compliant daughter's problems with her lap band experience, he is not in favor of my surgery.  He feels I can do it with diet and exercise if I just keep on trying.  He is supportive, goes to the gym with me and will eat whatever I decide I want to eat, but still I do not lose enough weight to get me into a healthy range.  My BMI is relatively low (~37) so it is easy for him to think that I don't need surgery like larger people do.  But with pre-diabetes, mild hypertension, GERD, joint aches and I can't remember what else, I really need to lose weight and don't know how else to do it.  I am a nurse and very cautious about surgery too...but I feel that it may be a necessary thing for me, not an optional one.
How can I help him be less fearful and more supportive of my surgical choice?

Hi there. Great question and one that a lot of us face. :)

So much so that I wrote an article on it for OH magazine that I think might help:  http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/amos/cmsID,11852/mode,cont ent/a,cms/

Let me know what you think and feel free to ask me any specific questions you have.

Warmly,
Kathy
