Flat Soda

So I gave up my Diet Cokes for a long time, but I've finally given in. I missed them too much and I couldn't take it anymore!!!! So I've been drinking them occasionally - mind you, I make sure that they're diet and flat so that I'm not breaking any rules.

I just wondered who had suggestions for making your Coke flat in the quickest and most efficient way possible. Here's the method I'm up to now - pour some in a bowl and transfer it between refrigerator and counter every couple of hours. Anyone else?

Hey Sarah! How are you doll? I don't drink sodas personally because they make me uncomfortable in my tummy so I'm not much help there.

Just wanted to say its nice to see you post and hope you are doing GREAT!

The nutritionist told us at our last meeting that if we can stomach diet soda, then we could have it. I have not tried it, but was shocked to learn that it was okay by her.

I have been missing my diet cokes too, especially during football season!  My best advice for making it flat is to pour it back and forth between two glasses a bunch of times.  We used to make sodas flat when we were kids when we had upset stomachs since the syrup was supposed to make you feel better.

Hope this helps!

I understand the desire for soda. I have found that letting it sit in the ice a little before drinking helps it get flat. I have also left the top open a little in the fridge. I have read that you could put in microwave for a few secs and it will go flat. I am trying to stick to decaf ones as I am a coffee addict and get too much caffeine there. Caffeine also dehydrates so I was advised I had to add extra water to compensate. Really need to work on that one, I know I sure feel better when I get the fluids in like I am supposed to but I falter on that one.

Check w/ your nut at surgeons office and see what they say. They all say something different. I dont have the desire all the time for them but when it hits I want it.

Best wishes,
Shannon

Hi Sarah!  I was just thinking about you yesterday & wondering about you.

I still don't drink the sodas mainly cause I just don't really crave them but I would guess that just letting them sit would be the best option.  I trust you will make the choice that is best for you but I will forwarn you that a lot of people who have gone back to sodas (on a regular basis) do complain about being stalled or losing slower.

Hope things are going well for you & that we hear from you more often.

Sarah,

I hope I do not come across sounding harsh on this one but I tell it like I see it.  That being said...here goes!

I think drinking sodas should be avoided 100% during the first year post op at a minimum.  Flat or not it is unecessary carbs and calories.  I do have an occassional sip of hubbys soda when I need to burp and do not have any gas x stips handy and I will have some ginger ale when my tummy is upset.  Both of these are done with my surgeons approval.

My aunt has had RNY surgery over 20 years ago and had a revision about 2 years ago.  She refused to give up her diet cokes, too.  She has lost about 45 lbs from her revision and needs to lose at least 150 more to make it a true success.

If you do chose to drink them remember to up your water.  You need 2 ounces of water for every 1 ounce of caffiene just to say you drank 1 ounce of water.

Have you talked to your nutritionist/surgeons office?

Is it really worth it?  After all you have gone thru to be a success......

I didnt see that you were so early out when I posted. I could not even drink a sip of them so early. I had a big time problem with burping early out and it really hurt. Sodas made it very painful for me. Hope you will check with your drs office and be really careful.
I read mixed reviews about them stretching your pouch. I know for me early out I felt like it was gonna blow up if I tried a taste.
