**Thanks for the replies I've received so far. They have been very informative, touching and great to get things moving in the right direction with education and awareness. I've gotten some great replies, stories and am very excited about this. I'm reposting this again for any folks I may have missed it. :)

In addition, if anyone has someone in their life who is/has been dealing with addiction transfer or addiction in general I'd be interested in hearing from them as well.

Good am all,

I'd like to ask EVERYONE to take some time to provide some important feedback, suggestions, concerns, etc. regarding Addiction Transfer. Please do so here in a reply or via PM and/or email at [email protected].

What suggestions do we have that we would like to see our surgeons, nurse practitioners, support groups, nuts etc implement in the weight loss surgery journey regarding Addiction Transfer?

What can we do to help them better prepare us as patients and them as doctor's throughout our journey to come TOGETHER and provide the best knowledge, support and care we can?

It's important that we come together as a community and really and truly give this a voice and do our best to provide one another with anything and everything we can to be as successful as possible during our journeys.

I appreciate everyone taking the time and effort to respond. This is an incredibly important topic of discussion and we will all benefit from the knowledge we will receive. So, let's be heard! I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks!!

Morning sweetie! this is a copy of what I just blogged.

So my friend the beautiful Christina wrote this awsome statement in her blog :. I also realized that our digestive systems do NOT handle alcohol well. The feeling hits me really fast, but leaves just as quickly it seems. I can see how some become easily addicted to that feeling and keep drinking. I also realize that it’s so dangerous and have put myself on a one drink limit when I go out…if I drink at all.

Let me tell you, that was such a yeah..what she said moment! I often have a glass of wine after dinner sitting on the swing watching the birds, dogs and butterflies. Some days I want two glasses and have it.
For a while my transfer addiction was shopping. I actually had a high from it, and those who know me know I only like to go grocery shopping. Yeah, weird huh? But I have always found it relaxing, and I never shop hungry.
Now I think because I have made so aware of transfer addictions, i have more control. Putting awareness out there in our support groups, with our surgeons, family and friends is just as critical, in my opinion, as knowing just how the surgery works and how to use our tool.
Hope this helps.

Well put....when I'm stressed or emotional I do 2 things.....look for a snack and/or shop.  Interesting...I get the same high no matter which I do.  BUT...am working to recognize what I am doing BEFORE I do it.

The healthy snacks at work have had to go, as I was reaching for them more and more "just to have a bite" to make me "feel better".  Fortunately, I never turned to alcohol, but can definately see where that could have been an issue for me.

But, am glad that Kat has taken the bull by the horns so to speak on this issue.....
