I Survived Atlanta !!!
Hey Tammy,
This was discussed with me although not in depth and at the time, it was NOT a major issue like it is TODAY. Its absolutely addressed by Commonwealth Surgeons. In fact, I have sitting beside me their most recent Patient Handbook and it lists it in there on page 18.
Prevention of Complications - Failure to understand and/or follow the behavioral guidelines, post gastric bypass, may cause the patient to experience increased anxiety and stress levels that may affect long term weight loss management and lead to weight re-gain. Psychological and behavioral maladaptation reactions (including depression and addiction transference) may occur while adjusting to new eating patterns and life style changes, which can also lead to weight re-gain or problems such as alcoholism.
Important information follows this on the rest of pages 18-20. In fact, there are SEVERAL other indicators throughout the handbook that refer to this. This handbook was given to me in April of this year 2008 by Maya (one of the nurse practioners in our surgeon's office). There is an amazing array of information in it. I personally think it would be WONDERFUL if everyone had access to this type of before & aftercare.
Hugs..........

Good to know it is still in writing. I went back and looked at my original handbook as well as one I have from MCV (a friend gave me a copy of hers for the recipes that are in there) and they both contain info regarding transfer addictions and our increased vunarbility for this to happen to us post op. I will be asking for a new book myself when I go in for my check up and hopefully Maya or Jennine will give me a copy!
Love ya!
