New to the community
Hello. I'm new to the site. I am attending my first seminar this Saturday, Aug. 26th! I am so excited. My boyfriend had the lap band and it has done wonders for him. Now I am going to do it for me and I couldn't be more excited! If anyone has any advice on a hospital or surgeon in VA I would be most appreciative. Thank you all so much!

Bridgette,
Hello and WELCOME!!! You should find all the information you want here. We do not have too many banders on here as most are RNY patients. I am biased and love Dr. Neil Hutcher out of Richmond, VA. He goes to St. Mary's Hospital (COE) and Henrico Doctors. He has been doing this surgery for over 30 years and is a real believer...not just in it for the money. I believe one of his partners, Dr. Bautista may do the lap band, but I am not sure. I hear good things about Dr. Moassez (sp.?) in NoVA but have no personal expierence with that group. Good luck, and congratulations on taking control of your health!

Hi Bridgette!
Welcome to the board...although I just joined yesterday. But I thought I could help since we both live in NoVa. I've gone with Dr. Moazzez in Farifax, he has his own bariatric practice and you can find out more at www.metrobariatrics.com.Dr. Mo and his staff have been nothing short of amazing, they help you with everything, no concern too small, no issue too big. He does both the Lap Band and RNY so there are options for you to choose from if you go with his practice. They're hosting an info session this Saturday, maybe that's the one you're going to?
I have my RNY surgery coming up on Aug. 4th so the time is drawing close. I'm very excited!
Keep us posted on your development, cheers!

Welcome Genevieve! You have come to the right place. There are many people here with wide ranges of experience and always willling to help. I have no personal experience of Dr Moazzez but have heard good things and there are people here who have him as their surgeon who can give ypu more opinions on him.
I think people here have given you many tips so far and I can only agree with them! I would also recommend learning EVERYTHING you can prior to surgery and go to some support groups so you can talk with people who have had the surgery and see for yourself how they are doing and get many good tips from them.
Good luck and keep us posted on your journey!
