Penny,

It never happened to me (Thankfully) but at three plus years post op I still take a hair/skin and nails vitamis (Walmart, $7.00 for a 30 day supply) three times a day and make sure my protein and water intake is 90 grams and 120+ ounces.  A lot of people swear by the vitamins.  They are also available at GNC, etc.  i take mine three times a day.

I bought some today. I wish I had started earlier because the nurse said that it takes about 3 months to see the regrowth. We'll see.
Thanks Penny

Did you buy hair, skin and nails or biotin?  I have seen people taking this see the regrowth in 3-4 weeks.  You can get nioxin shampoo at any salon (I think...I know most sell it) and I think there may be some available at wally-world, but I am not sure.  I know some salons offer biotin shampoos with the strong stuff, but I do not think they are worth it.  My sister has been a hairdresser for 20+ years and she recommended the HS and N vitamin, plus my support group and my surgeon.  I began taking it just prior to surgery and have been continuing ever since!  keep me posted.

BTW....I love the new avitar!

The bottle says Biotin...and below it says "promotes skin, hair and nail health".  Does the vitamin you take have a name? I may want to check that out.

Thanks Penny

Guess I better take a trip to Walmart!  I already wore my hair pretty short but I have noticed it becoming even thinner so yesterday I had it cut even shorter.  Not so bad since it so hot outside.  You seem to be doing great.  I go for my check up on friday so I will post an update then.

Please let me know how your appointment goes. They were happy with my weight loss. They said I was "above average" at this time...even though I thought I was losing slower than others. They did change all my vitamins.

See ya, Penny

The vitamin I take is simply Hair, Skin and Nails.  It is in a pink box at WalMart, with the other vitamins.  It is usually near the bottom of a shelf.  It has Biotin in it, but other essitional vitamins in it as well.

Penny,

Your hair is a reflection on your health about 3 months prior so anything you do now will be reflected in a few weeks. It is already too late to be preventable but you can help mitigate it by upping your protein, making sure you take all of your vitamins and supplements and plenty of water drinking every day.... also biotin or any other supplement that can help promote hair growth.

Some people are predisposed to hair loss after surgery BUT it does not all fall out and always grows back.....  I never lost any hair and I was dreading it because I have thin hair but I believe it was because I took all my vitamins and supplements religiously and drank all my protein because I was so scared of it happening!

SO do what you can now and see the benefits down the line!

I wish I had started the biotin earlier. Oh well, I'm starting today.
Thanks

Good am Penny,

I agree with Amb taking Biotin really does help. I started losing hair around 4-5 months and it lasted for a couple months. Mine freaked me out at first because I've always had really long hair and it was coming out pretty good. I'm unsure of the shampoo she speaks of but she'll most likley be around this am to answer you. Its not preventable and happens to almost everyone I have known that's had WLS or will have it. It's mainly anesthesia related and our bodies way of "getting rid" of the meds in our system.

Hugs..............
