How long did it take your physician to submit your pre-auth letter? How long to get it approved? How long to schedule your surgery date? Any one have Carefirst BCBS ?

Hi There, I don't have the same insurance as you; I have AETNA. My surgeon submitted my letter as soon as I completed the pre-op requirements. It was immediate. Check out my profile to see al that follows. Long story short - I was denied and it took me until Jan.23 '07 to get approved - that's about 5 months from the date that I went to the initial Q&A session that he requires. My surgery date is April 30th at noon. I hope that helps. Good Luck, Robin

Hi there. I don't have the same insurance either, but I can tell you that once I did the required 3-month nutrition and exercise program and got all the documentation in my surgeon sent it in ASAP and I heard back (with an approval!) in about 2-3 weeks. I could have scheduled my surgery for about 6 weeks after that, but decided to wait another month because of other things going on (my hubby and I bought a house and moved). Hope that helps! I went to the seminar Nov 8, my 1st consult w/ dr. dec 22, from there had a surgery date of feb 27th. I went for my pre-op testing jan 22. I had called the drs office many times before my pre-op app. because i live in va beach and all my stuff had to be done in suffolk and i wanted to make sure i was approved before i went and did all that. She kept telling me she doesnt submit to the insurance until a couple weeks prior to surgery. Well here it is tue feb 20 and i still dont know if im approved and my surgery is scheduled for next tuesday. She told me she submitted it to the insurance on jan 24. So i really have no idea. Ive been calling the insurance company and they just keep telling me its "pending" But good luck!

I filed in April of 04', got my approval letter in May an my surgery date the same day my letter came in the mail. I had my surgery in Sept but could have had it earlier but It was a personal schedule thing. Of course I waited almost 3 years to find an insurance to cover me. So waiting a little longer was no big deal at that time.

I don't have the same either,I have BCBS Federal and the surgeons office submitted the paper work the day of my appointment and I was approved the next day but I had to call the insurance to find out. Then I did all my stuff like psych eval, gall bladder ultra sound, sleep study and echo cardiogram. Even though I was approved right away it still took from Oct 24 - Jan 24 for my surgery to happen. Hope this helps. Anna

I have Anthem BCBS Keycare 1- I was approved the same day of my 1st appointment. My husband also has a different Anthem - I think his is Carefirst and he was approved before we ever left the doctors office at his first appointment. Good Luck! Be persistant! Hugs Jill
