I started my 2 week liver shrinking diet on friday, I am having a very hard time doing it. The doctor said do a 800 calorie diet with a lot of protein. Is there any suggestions? He also recommended Slim Fast Optima but it is messing with my stomach. I feel so frustrated with this. Am I still supposed to be hungry? please help.... Montego

I don't have any suggestions for you Mo because I didn't have to do the liquid diet. I just wanted to tell you to be strong, you can do it! Courtney

Thanks Courtney, Trust me I am trying so hard to stay strong. My cousin did not have to do it either. I wonder why some people had to do it and some don't????? Montego

Don't give up...just remember satan does not want to see you succeed at this! Yes, you will feel hungry...but just think of it as your mind is playing games with you and find something to do...other than watch tv. Now is a good time to get a hobby like cross stitching, drawing, quilting...something to do with your hands! Pray - read - whatever... And yes...protein is very important...I did a modified atkins...70 grams of protein and 30 grams of carbs per day...for my two week pre-op. I lost almost 25 pounds during that two weeks. I also gave up cokes...and that played a really big part! I am praying for you! Hugs! Jill

Thanks Jill, This is really trying for me. I have been so use to eating that now when I am being challanged to cut back it is playing a toll on me. So far I have been doing good but the headaches and the hunger pains is really hard to deal with. I have cut out some carbs and I am doing more meats, lean meats. Thanks all prayers are needed. Did you excersie at all to lose the 25 pounds?

Hi, I just wanted to tell you that I had Dr. Lin as well! Love love love him! He is awesome. You are in good hands. I remember when I was doing my pre surgery diet, it was hard, but I just kept thinking that I was so close to having something done that was going to change my life and give me something I'd always wanted -- a thinner me!! What I took instead of Slim Fast was Ensure. It didn't seem to be as sweet as the Slim Fast and set with me. I pretty much just did the liquid drinks. You can do this, and the hunger will go away after a few days. Set your mind to it, be positie, and know that this will help Dr Lin with the surgery. Good luck to you!! If you're interested you could look at my profile and read about my journey! Let me know if there is anything else I can do. GWU is a wonderful hospital and the staff is very good. love donna

Hey Montego, I didn't have to do 2 weeks but I did have to do a liquid diet for 5 days and that was really hard, I lived on ice water and popcicles. It was hard but worth it in the end, I lost 12lbs in those 5 days....good luck and keep strong, Minette

I went on modified Atkins (added protein supplements) for 3 months prior to surgery and lost 34 pounds, so did not have to crash diet for 10 days prior to undergoing the knife. BUT--Look at this as being your LAST chance, NOT to be squandered or wasted. You can do it and WILL do it. My surgeon will refuse surgery if a patient does not lose at least 10 pounds. That liver shrinkage is important to your health! God Bless and Godspeed in your recovery, Lois
