What would you do?

Hi Jackie, Wouldn't that be a NIGHTMARE - to get denied if changed surgeons? You're right - I'm sticking with my original surgeon. I have decided, after reading all the words of wisdom given so graciously by all of you guys, that I will use this time to get my house good and clean, get some painting and other little maintenance jobs that I've been putting off taken care of, etc. That way if I have complications, God forbid, I will not have to stress over the little things. Also, that way I'll have more time to concentrate on ME afterwards. Thanks for your advice and support. It means a lot to know that you guys are here for me. Hugs, Robin

Hey Robin, tough decision you have there. My personal opinion is to stay with the surgeon you have already picked. Go ahead and get a June surgery date, take the time to prepare yourself, if you have the flexibility with your schedule (work, family, etc) ask to be put on a list to be called if they have any cancellations. There just seems to be too many "possibilities" if you switch surgeons. I purposely waited for 2 1/2 months after my approval to have my surgery and it made things so much easier on me. I had the time to get everything together, do more research, start changing my diet, increasing my water intake, etc. I also had more of a chance to get myself mentally prepared. Good luck in making your decision and remember that you are the only one who can decide what is best for you. Courtney

Hi Courtney, Your advice follows right along with everyone else's. I am so glad to have you guys to help me out. I am going to wait it out, but I am also going to make sure that I am on a cancellation list and that they know that my insurance has May on the approval. I feel like I am mentally prepared (i've been working on this since August of 2006), although I know that none of us can fully fathom what this is all about until you go through it. I guess I am just showing my immaturity a bit because, darn it, I want my surgery NOW. I know - grow up and quit whining, right? Anyway, thanks again for the wise advice! I am taking heed... Hugs, Robin

Like everyone else, I would wait. You already went through so much and it really isn't that far away when you think about it. It almost didn't happen at ALL, so three and a half months isn't too bad. Besides if your surgeon's office is like mine, people have to cancel for various reasons and you may end up having surgery before you know it! That's what happened with me. I went to my consultation on June 15th and they had a slot open July 19th, I had to haul ass to make those appointments that fast. We'll be praying for a spot to open up! In the meantime use it to get ready and hit up lots of support groups and get to know some more folks who can help post-op. Amber

Hi Amber, You are soooo right. I'm sticking with my original surgeon, and I'm going to try to get to some support group meetings. That's a terrific idea! Thanks for such good advice! Hugs, Robin
