Newbie is Nauseated(sp?) and is trying to get a handle on it! Help!
Hi Va Boarders,
I have briefly posted here from time to time and then the holiday**** and then my surgery, which was Dec 27th. I feel fine as far as pain goes, but I am almost always nauseas, and it is driving me nuts. I am also exhausted all of the time. Ahh. I have tried ginger hot tea, and it was okay, but the ill feeling didn't go away. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Cindy
Oh, also did any of you all have insomnia with this? Thanks!
Hi Cindy,
Yep, completely normal sounding to me. My first couple months post op, I stayed nauseas, exhausted and couldn't sleep more than 2-3 hours at a stretch.
To help the nausea, my doc had me start chewing 1 or 2 tums prior to eating meals. I did that for a couple weeks, and it really helped a LOT. Check with your doc, for his thoughts though!
The sleep, I learned to deal with.. the exhaustion kept getting better over time. Keep up on your fluids, and vitamins.
Best of luck
Wendy
Your body has undergone so much . It will take a while to get back to your new self . I had felt as if a mack truck had hit me ... Just keep the protein and water coming . Also, you may want to try some papaya enzyemes for the nasea... This helps me so much.. you can get them at your local Walgreens or Pharmacy . Maybe even Walmart.
For the insomnia .. try some Melatonin . This too can be bought at your local pharmacy or vitamin store . This helps me a lot when I can not sleep .
Best wishes to you,
Natalie
Natalie,
Congratulations to you on your upcoming nuptuals! What a wonderful thing to see and hear!
I have heard about the papaya enzyme thing before when I was pregnant. I think that I will be checking that out! I did try ambien ( which worked), however, I have three little ones, which believe sleeping in is waking up at 630 am instead of 600. I will look into the Melatonin too! Thanks, as always for sharing your wls wisdom and always trying to help! Cindy

Hi - in the first couple of weeks I bought Queasy Pops - I think I got them from www.vitalady.com - the ginger ones helped a lot - but I bought them in advance so I only used them for a day or so.....

Hi Cindy!!
I'm so sorry you're feeling yucky. I never had the icky tummy thing, but I think I did a lot to avoid it in advance. My best friend those first few months was herbal teas. Even if it doesn't take away the feeling completely, it's soothing and it's getting in your water. I am a PEPCID AC freak!!! I've taken it all along and I swear by it. BUT, you need to discuss this with your surgeon........they all have different ideas here and you have to be safe. I felt like CRAP, energy wise for 2 months. If you are exhausted, taking naps during the day, it stands to reason your nighttime sleep will not be good. SOOO, if you are napping, try to stay awake during the day and sleep only at night. Work through the exhaustion, and keep busy so your body can relax later. When I am on high protein/low carb diets, I have wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too much energy and am a bad sleeper......this could be happening too. Ketosis and it's many effects. It's all worth it though.........do you feel your self deflating??? You are not like a balloon, slowly losing air. Keep on keepin on I promise it gets better and better!!! XOXOXOOXO
