HPV Vaccine...Protect yourself and those you love
At Specialists For Women, we take the prevention of cancer seriously. For the first time ever, we have a vaccine available that can actually prevent cervical cancer. There are many types of human papilloma virus. Some cause no harm, others cause diseases of the genital area. If the virus does not go away on its own, it can develop into cervical cancer.
HPV is a common virus, affecting nearly 20 million people in the United States. It is transmitted by any kind of sexual activity or genital contact. Any male or female who is sexually active is at risk of contracting HPV and passing it on to others. People who are carriers of HPV may have no signs or symptoms evident. The only way to know if you have HPV is to be screened by a medical professional.
The HPV vaccine requires 3 injections over a period of several months. It is recommended for females aged 9 to 26 and is available at Specialists For Women. For more information please call the office at 757-539-3911 or click on the link provided to http://www.GARDASIL.com

» Who should receive GARDASIL?
GARDASIL AND YOU
GARDASIL is for girls and women ages 9 to 26. GARDASIL works when given before you have any contact with HPV Types 6, 11, 16, and 18.
If you've already been infected with HPV, you may still benefit from GARDASIL because it is unlikely that you have been infected with all 4 types of the virus covered by the vaccine. Your doctor or healthcare professional can help you understand more.
WHY SHOULD I GET MY DAUGHTER VACCINATED WITH GARDASIL NOW? CAN'T IT WAIT?

Having survived cervical cancer 2 times, I high encourage this. HPV can also lie dormant for years, so you never know who gave it to you. I got divorced and then had a boyfriend who I thought gave it to me, but I was told it could have been from someone way back in my past. It isn't pleasant to develop cervical cancer so if you have the chance go get vaccinated.
