Protein Help
OK I had my 8 week check up today and explained to them I can not drink the protein shakes they literally make me vomit. So she told me to start on some protein bars.Im lost as in which ones to get that are low if not sugar free and low carb.I went to the store today and there wasn't much there that had a small amount of sugar in them.SO any suggestions..I truley need to up the protein cause in 3 weeks I only had a 4 pd loss.
The only one I've found so far that is completely under the sugar mark (not higher in sugar alcohols either) is the South Beach Meal Supplement Bar. They have it in Chocolate Crisp and Peanut Butter Chocolate. It is 210 calories though and 6 grams of fat. I don't know if I would eat it just yet at your Post Op timing. I ate the whole thing this morning and I don't feel well at all (I don't dump on sugar either). It does have a lot of vitamins though. Other than that, I make Peanut Butter Protein Balls and drink the shooters, because I can't drink a lot of the drinks either. I just get creative and make my own with my Magic Bullet. The shooters saved my life. I couldn't drink anything but those in the beginning. Hope that helps,
Amber
Best of luck to you. I am a convert to protein bars ansd they are a life safer for me but the choices are very limited. I am also now looking into my Nutrisitions from group support recommendation to try liquid proteins.
Protein bars I have success with:
Pure Protein; Chocolate Deluxe (other flavors have more sugar and fat) 20 gms Protein, 0 Sugar, 7 gms Sugar Alcohol
Detour; Caramel Peanut (only flavor avaiable in my area) 15 gms Protein and now they also have a lower fat version that even tastes better.
I can eat these when other foods aren't going down or staying down well,...and, the label from the manufacturer even says to drink 8 oz of water when eating the Pure Protein bars, so it is nice to be able to sip some water when eating the bar too.
I buy these by the box at Walmart 6 bars for $5.97 here in VA, Petersburg area.
I am still trying to find a local supplier for liquid protein I haven't found yet.

I really like the Adkins Chocolate Chip granola. There is another place based in Woodbridge, that has been our support group meeting and to the conferences last year that has some great choices. I don't have the information with me but will gladly send it to you later (unless someone else remebers what it is and posts it).
