Hi everyone! I'm new to the board. My surgery is scheduled for Jan 23. I've been researching Gastric Bypass for about two years now and I'm happy with my decision, but as surgery date gets closer, the anxiety level is rising. Did this happen to anyone else?

hello Juli, congratulations. I'm just beginning to really research surgery myself, I've been doing so off and on for the past two years and I actually went for a consultation with a Dr. in NY. I've moved to Richmond and have been here for a little over a year so I'm starting over with my research. I was very excited until my company switched health care providers. (Cigna). Cigna does not authorize weight loss surgery and given my family history this is a MUST for me. I wish you well. Val

Welcome, Juli and you have found the most supportive and wonderful board there is. Yes, we all get anxious and nervous to the point some of us want to back out at the last minute but we all get through it and glad we did. I have no regrets! It is a wonderful journey and it is only beginning for you, Sweetie. I would do it again if it were necesarry....Good luck and keep on posting...we are here for support and encouragement... Hugs, Betsy

Hello Juli, Congrats on getting your date! I too have a date this month..Jan 18th..and I am nervous, and excited too. I think this is normal, based on the responses that I have received on this wonderful site. Everyone has been so supportive; don't hesitate to ask even the silliest question, because I'm sure someone else is thinking it!! Good luck and my prayers are with you. Sonia

If you didn't have pre-surgery anxiety you wouldn't be normal!! If you have been researching for two years, then you have already made a good effort to understand what is going to happen to you and be glad that you are prepared. Anxiety and surgery go hand in hand. Surprising enough when I was finally at the hospital and laying in gown and silly "jiffy pop" hat, I had a strange sense of calmness come over me. I knew that this was the right decision and that I was going to be ok. Congrats on your upcoming date. Remember we are here for you and can answer your questions and concerns.
