I have a cold and I am 11 days pre-op for my lapband. I scared that this cold is going to make me have to reschedule my surgery ( my nightmare!!). I am taking mucinex - 1 pill every 12 hours. Does anyone know of anything that has worked for them this close to the date?!? I am finally getting used to the tastes of the pre-op diet...I am just so afraid that will be postponed for this...I have chest congestion (not much..but I do have a cough that produces phlegm) Any suggestions?

Pseudofed. The real kind that you have to sign for now. Mucinex never did one thing for me. Pseudofed is my wonder drug. Lois

You do not need a prescription for it, but it is behind the counter and you have to sign for it. It is quite inexpensive still. I just had to get some for my son the other day. Ask for it at the pharmacy counter. Lois

OK Great Lois, I'll talk to the nurse practictioner in the morning and suggest this instead of antibiotics, which I don't think will help. Sonia

We are so sorry... really Take Zinc Tablets, you still can take them, until one week before surgery. Call the Dr. office (Dawn the Nurse), I am sure they can give you something that will help with your cold, and with the upcoming surgery. Glad to hear you are fending well with the Pre-Op Diet. It has been hard for me..., mainly because of the constant hunger; it is debilitating me physically and mentally. Waking up at 3:00 AM the last 3 nights with a stomach rumbling of hunger. I am trying not to be snappy with my family, but it is a real challenge to cook for other when the only thing you can have is protein shake, when you are hungry. Let us know how are you doing with your cold.

Irma, How are you? I am going to call Dawn in the morning...she told me to call her today when I saw her on Thursday for my pre-op and H&P. I stalled today because I wanted to see where I was going with this thing. As far as the diet goes...I am really hungry. I don't think I am fending as well as I thought...I was at work when I first wrote about the diet....now I am at home....I work 16 hour shifts on the weekend, so I am up for 18 hours and it's not enuf food!! Tonight, my husband cooked for them...ground beef for spagetti never, ever smelled so appetizing before...I don't even really like spaghetti!!! I'm not complaining really because I am committed to this, but.....whine....whine...whine.. Thanks for your input...I'll ask Dawn about the Zinc in the am. Sonia

There is a nasal spray that contains sea salt . Get this and start cleaning out your sinuses . Mucinex dries up everything . You need things to flow so it will leave your body . Also .. up the fluids ... this will help you to start coughing the phlegm . Also... what Lois said about Sudafed... try that as well .. and also Robitussin for cough and colds works wonders too . Best wishes to you . Natalie

Natalie, Thanks for the input...you are so right about the Mucinex...I am so dried up...and I couldn't fiqure out why. I am drinking so much more than I used to because of the pre-op diet, but I could do more. Sonia

I've heard that Zicam works really well, but I've not used it personally. I know when I get colds that increasing my fluids and being religous about blowing instead of sniffing helps me...oh, and getting plenty of rest of course. Hope you find something that works for you! Christina S
