I just received a call this morning from the doc's office, that i am NOT a candidate for RNY because of my EGD Test Results, Im really bummed out. I wanted this surgery, i had just gotten to the point where I was accepting everything mentally. I opted to have the LapBand procedure, but just don't like the idea of having to be stuck with a needle every so often, and the frequent doc's visits. I also need to loose quite a bit, and I know with this procedure it is a slower process. Oh well, Im still in shock and disappointment.

Well you can always get the lapband and when you have lost some weight maybe they can then do the RNY if you feel you still want it. Don't give up - lapband is still a procedure for losing weight and that is your goal.... and you may not need to get a fill that often.... and it is also reversible.... there are still many plusses to that surgery...

Moni,
I am so sorry to hear this news. Try to remember that things happen for a reason. When I started this jouney I was 19 and was denied twice before I was approved this time..Im now 26. Im sure this isnt helping you now, but trust me there is a reason. Try your best with your eating and maybe by next year you can try again.
Youre probably thinking that its easy for me to say, but I know, first hand, that feeling of sadness.
Also, try to think of it as a blessing because if Dr. Moazzez did the surgery anyway imagine the complications.
Hang in there,
Courtney

"not a candidate for RNY because of your EGD results"?!?!?!
Sorry, I don't understand what that means at ALL - why are they so black and white about this? As in NEVER a candidate, or with adjustments and or tweaks, eventually you could be a candidate?
I would NEVER settle for ONE opinion, and I sure wouldn't settle for the word "NO" ... lol, I'm just stubborn like that.
I think you should get a 2nd opinion - if the next doc comes to the same conclusions then it's probably time to get over your desire to avoid needles? Havent a clue how they actually FILL the band, but maybe those on the LapBandForum can ease your concerns?
Not sure if you already have that link, but if not - here tis'

Good luck to you, get angry if you have to, but don't give up this early in the game.
