HELP Please?
A stricture is where scar tissue forms over the opening and typically does not allow foods, vits and even liquids pass through the opening to our new tummy. I've had 2 strictures and the 1st was the worst. I could not get ANY fluids at all down. Then second wasn't as bad but both required an Endoscopy (ballooning of the opening to open passage) to fix them. PLEASE call your doc if you are unable to get any foods, vits and especially fluids down. It's VERY common yet serious!
Good luck and keep us posted!

Ditto on what Kat said. I had two of them as well (one at 5 weeks and one at 5 months) and both also required an endoscopy. The first one was also the worst for me and both required a couple of days in the hospital on iv fluids. Call Dr. Hutcher's office right away and get checked out. It is nothing to play with!

Oh God..that is a NASTY NASTY word !!!!!! I need to go back for my 3rd dilation next week !!!
It sure sounds like you have one to me !!! Talk to your doctor. I started having problems at one month out. I will be 3 months out of the 7th. My doctor said it was too soon for a stricture but he was wrong. When i went back for my 2 month follow up the NP made arrangements for me to be followed by G.I. Sure enough...I had a "severe stricture."
Stephanie, I could eat carbs that would digest in my mouth..like crackers, a piece of candy (ooooppppps) and easy things...could drink liquids..but anything with any consistancy would not go through. So eating protein was out of the question. One night I took my vitamins, etc..and one got stuck and I really felt too ill to go to the ER..and the constant hurling and vomiting.....Yucko !!
get checked...call your doc. If I can help out please email me !!! There are several people on here that have had them...luckily they can be taken care of with a little consious sedation and demerol before hand !!!

Thank you, Dana.
Yes, anything with consistancy doesnt go through, I feel it get stuck and then comes the heaving and foaming as well. Makes life misreable. And if anything isnt ICE cold, it feels weird going in. My husband has surgery 06-06-06, and I will talk to the doc then, I don't want to make my hubby miss his date he has waited for so long for, for something like this.
I can still get in ICE cold liquids.
Thank you again,
Stephanie
