Topic: Surgery in Mexico... Fill Doctors in Utah
Just wondering if anyone out there in Utah has had Lap Band surgery outside of Utah or even in Mexico that has found a Utah doctor to perform fills. I have narrowed down my decision to two hospitals, Salt Lake City and Mexico. Problem is, many people that have had their surgeries in another State or Mexico have mentioned problems finding a qualified fill doctor in Utah. Seems rather sad
and shows that it is mostly about money and not about treating people for health and well-being. Any information you have would be GREATLY appreciated.

Interresting. I wonder if UHC in Utah just doesn't approve RNY, because they are one of the best insurance companies in the state for approving Lap-Band. My surgeon's group even mentions them in their initial presentation as one of the companies that is the easiest for them to work with.
Topic: RE: New Pain
As they say, "This too shall pass!" You are walking more and for the first time in a long time your knees are being exercised more. It will pass and you will notice in about 4 months that you wonder when and where the pain went. It just takes time. One thing that can help (I'm no Dr.) is to take calcium magnesium (citrate form) it is natures natural sedative and for joint aches, a pain killer of limited amount. the Calcium works on the nerve endings. What could (again I'm no Dr.) be happening is your body is experiencing a lack of calcium. You need increased amt now and for the rest of your life. Do not rely on drinking milk and milk products. Get the supplements and be faithful. Read up on the side effects of lack of calcium and you will se joint pain is one of them.
Topic: RE: Risks of Gastric Bypass?
EVERYONE!!!!!!!! should view this presentation. I had the bleeding problem the second day right after passing the leak test. It was extreme and I nearly died. The Dr's could not tell me what happened, and to this day they just bru**** off. It was scary for over 6 hours to continually be throwing up vast amounts of blood. I was in a coma after 2 hours and when my hubby arrived at the hospital to visit, and saw me lying in a bed filled with my bloody vomit, he threw a fit. That is when Stanford finally did something to help me. After getting plasma pumped into me and care, the bleeding stopped, and I regained conciousness. Until I saw this presentation last week, I wondered what had happened to me. The illustrious John Morton who claims to be the top bariatric surgeon in the USA should watch it as well and learn from it.
Second I was lucky enough to have a second risk hit me. in the obstructions section of the presentation it also talks about herniated intestines. This is what I'm having surgery to correct next week. I do not fear what is wrong with me as much as I would if I had not seen this presentation. It explained what happened and why. It also tells you how they fix it. I wish all Dr's (listen up John Morton) would make all their potential patients view it.

Careful and don't get your hopes up. United Health Care does not ever approve bariatric surgery in Utah. They have an exclusion to it. It might be fine if your company specifically allows it. Utah is one of the states that is thinking about changing the laws to either allow all insurance companies to exclude it, or they have to approve given the proper cir****tances/need.
On another note, I had no problem recently getting my reduex of bariatric surgery through approval of United Health Care. I will have the second surgery to correct the problems from the first just 3 days after my one year anniversary. With me it is a totally different cir****tance. Mine is not cormorbidities this time, but a life threatening problem that has arisen. Lucky me I fell inot the category of the 1 to 3 % of those who develop a herniated intestinal track.
If you have very many problems with UHC let me know. I'm a pitbull when it comes to dealing with insurance companies, and in particular UHC. Their cheif medical officer CMO is an idiot and doesn't know a thing. 8 years ago he on the phone told me there is no such thing as an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament, it runs through the middle of your knee holding your knee joint together) and denied the claim for the knee surgery. After I asked him where he got his degree "Sears and Robuck" and grilled him on basic anatomy and physiology, he relented and approved the claim. Insurance companies sadly are in the business of keeping the money you pay them. It is in their interest to deny everything if at all possible. You have to be proactive and get in their face. I've even driven to insurance company headquarters to talk directly to the pres (in Tennessee) The old addage the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
What Utah needs is a state oversight board like the California insurance reglatory board. It is not made up of insurance companies but state officials that make sure that the insurance companies do what they are supposed to do. In California baratric surgery is not able to be excluded. Until we as the citizens of this state demand better insurance coverage and oversight we will be treated as if we are in a third world country.
