Kay: I had my surgery through RMAP, Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians at St Marks in Salt Lake.  We have a monthly support group the 2nd Wed of each month at the Hospital.  The patients are required to pay a $500.00 education fee whi*****ludes many things including the support group.  I know there have been a few people who had their surgeries through other Dr's who don't provide any kind of support or education that have paid the $500.00 and gotten the materials (Blue Book) including access to the support group. RMAP began doing Lap Band surgery about one year ago and so now our meeting have began to have a nice mix of both types of surgery. If that interests you you could call Kim the Education Coordinator at 801-268-3800 or Toll-free 1-800-999-9970. We had a great meeting last night The speaker was a Professional Chef who has written a recipe book for Weight Loss Surgery patients.  The topic for the night was surviving the Holidays. Best wishes

Topic: Am I unusual ~ MY STORY
Hey Fellow Banders, I had the lap band surgery in 1/05 at South Valley Surgical in Sandy, and lived down in Cedar City, and because of that was not really able to take full advantage of the program because of the distance. I ended up having to move to the state of Ky before I was at my goal weight. There was a time when I thought that the band wasnt working for me, until I got enough fills to get some tight restriction, but with that came a lot of throwing up. It was a trade off because I was finally seeing the number on the scales go down, and you start to accept the throwing up as normal and just a part of having the band. I did end up moving to KY and got a good fill just before moving - as I said earlier that I had more weight to loose and knew it would be a while until I found the right band Doc in my new home state. I ended up getting to a comfortable weight for me, but when I did get connected with a new doc, an upper GI revealed I had esophageal dialation and ended up having all the fluid removed from my band for 6 wks.  In that time I ended up putting on 50 lbs! I actually didnt know it was humanly possible to gain that fast. I ended up gaining another 25 lbs as Ive slowly been getting fills. Heres the problem: It seems to me like I either dont have enough restriction to loose weight, or I am losing weight but throwing up all the time. I dont know if I've just never gotten that "sweet spot" that the Dr.s like to talk about - or that they dont have the band - and dont know it seems to have a mind of it's own. My Mom has a band and has had the same problem with it.  Is anyone with me on this?? I feel like a bit of a lap-band failure!

Cambria: I'm willing to offer a listening ear if you would find that helpful.  I actually live in West Jordan... not to far from South Jordan.  You can email me or I'm even willing to arrange time to get together.!! never done that other than a few hospital visits.  I am much older than you (I think).  Don't know if that matters though. We each have our own stories but what we do share is the hope that having this surgery will permanantly change our lives by improving our health.   Support group at St Marks is coming up next Wednesday Nov 14 @ 6 pm.  I't would be great to meet you if you can make it. Best wishes, Marva

Topic: Fills USA Fill Dr quitting

I talked to Charolate today and learned that  Dr. Muse is not going to do fills anymore through the center.  Maybe he will though the clinic.  I have an appointment on Nov 8.  I am not sure what else to do.  I was banded in Mexico and don't have much choice.  I really like Dr. Muse.  We had a rocky start but I really like him.  If you have any suggestions on who to go to I would appriciate it.    Also is there a support group in Utah that is not affiliated with a Dr.   I live in Price and would travel 1 or 2 times a month.  It would be nice to meet some other people that have been banded.   Thanks  Kay
