Peggy, this board is so slooow. I just post on the main RNY msg board now mostly because it moves a lot faster than this board. If you post something on here, it might take a month or so to even get ONE response, lol. Congrats on your new support group and radio group! And good job for all the weight loss you've had girl !

Wow. I thought I was just a thread killer and now I cannot even START a thread!
Topic: RE: How did you choose between RNY and the Lap Band?
I knew RNY was for me because the band left me too many choices.
I heard my own voice saying, "Hey, it's November. I'll skip my fill." If I knew I was going to have wiggle room, I couldn't go that direction.
Another reason was for speed. I started at 384 and needed to chunk off as much as possible and fast. I knew the momentum was needed to carry me to goal weight and without a quick slice off the top, I wouldn't go far.
Those were MY reasons and my ONLY change would be in researching the switch more so I would have known, up front, about another choice. I would have had to travel, but had it been my choice I would have done so.

Hey there!
I had RNY on 7/13/06 and have lost 150 and have another 70-80 to go. IT WILL HAPPEN! I am working on my 'issues' and moving forward.
I just started a support group in Cedar City (tell your Southern friends!) and a radio support group. LOVING LIFE! Where is everyone???

Topic: Salt Lake Regional Medical Center...?'s
I am going to a seminar soon at SLRMC and am self pay for the RNY surgery. I was wondering if anyone out there had it done there and how much it was to do it with SLRMC. I was looking at Rocky Mountain Physicians and it says it's like almost $19k, and half of that is just the hospital fee at St. Mark's! I was hoping since maybe they are based in the medical ctr that maybe it'll be a little less cost than this other dr....sigh.
Dr. Christina Richards looks like the dr that I'd really like to do my surgery too. I've read a lot of great testimonials about her from patients on here!
Anyone? Thanks!

Yes, you all were very helpful with the info you gave. I have heard a lot of good things about RNY and good AND bad about the Band, so I think I'm going to opt for the RNY. I am set up to go to a WLS seminar soon, so I'll be able to get going soon on my wl journey!
Thanks!

I am just starting to look into my options. My doc recommended the lapband, so thats where I'm starting. I had no idea you could lose that much with the lapband, congrats!

As far as the part you said about the hormone Ghrelin, I was told that it was basically the same with the RNY. That your ghrelin level is dramatically decreased. But lets not fool ourselves, from the research that has been done anyone can become hungry again, and at any time.
