I am pretty sure that Dr. Speakman at Southwest Surgical does accept medicaid and medicare. I do insurance verification for the hospital and I know that we have had medicaid patients go in for WLS.

Topic: Select Health to Cover WLS
I have been looking into WLS for several months with the thought that I would have to go self pay because my insurance, Select Health, has not covered WLS. I got some good news from my employer about a month ago that WLS covearage will be available starting in 2009, I am very excited about this and it has helped me become more involved in learning what procedure may be best for me. The coverage will only provide up to $10,000, but that is $10,000 I won't have to pay!
The Utah board here on OH doesn't look too active, anyone else out there looking at WLS in 2009?

Topic: BEST Sugar Free Margarita Mix EVER!
Hey Everyone! I just had to share this with ya'll. There is a lady that lives in the town that I do that created a Margarita mix that has ZERO Sugar, ZERO Carbs, ZERO Calories and ZERO Fat.. If you are a Margarita lover like I am, you have got to try this product. It is GREAT! It is being sold right now through a citrus tree company, but she will have her own webpage up soon, when she gets it up, I will let everyone know! But if you are interested in having a Lemon or Lime Tree and want some Margarita mix, you can find it at :www.keylimepietree.com/nocarbarita.html
I know I have not been on this site for quite some time, but I am trying to get back on track. I have done pretty well with maintaining my weightloss. My surgery was in March 2005, I weighed 240, I am still at 130. I am very happy with my success. I hope everyone is doing great.

Topic: RE: I am Desperate....no co-morbids
Hey, I had medicaid, healthy-u and my doctor had Gerd, and sleep apnea as my co-morbid conditions, so shouldn't you back or foot pain be classified as something towards co-morbid? I know my doctor pushed and helped so much! Good luck to you I also had to do the 1 year program it was tuff, but all worth it!! Take care, Jenn

Topic: I am Desperate....no co-morbids
Hi,
I have state insurance (Medicaid) and I am almost done with my 1-year supervised diet. I have a detailed description of what the insurance criterion is for WLS and it says that I MUST have serious co-morbid conditions in order to qualify.
And I don't have any right now.
Please help.... doesn’t anyone have any ideas??
I've already been tested for Sleep apnea and I've already done all of my lab work and I don't have high cholesterol or anything seriously wrong with me.
I DO have:
a BMI of 48,
depression,
GERD,
weight related foot pain,
some back pain
That's about it. I've heard that my insurance doesn't like to pay for this surgery, so they do whatever they can to avoid it.
I am desperate to have this surgery. I want my life back. I want to be normal again. What else can I do?
Please help me.

Topic: RE: Northern Utah-Yes there is more to Utah than SLC
I went through Dr. Simper-he was great! A very down to earth dude who will tell you how it is. I haven't had any problems-I'm just under 7 months out and down 115 pounds. Good luck to you! That staff at RMAP is great!
