Topic: RE: Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians (RMAP) Patients
I'm driving myself crazy. My work (which is in the field of healthcare) has all kinds of sweets and carbonated drinks around (for free!). I don't have an issue with the soda but my job is stress filled on most days and so try as I might I always end up grazing a little. So far it hasn't hurt me but I keep thinking ... if I don't get this under control, it will doom me in the end.
I know, a little negative thinking but....
In talking to another RMAP patient (with Dr. McKinley), he told her the only person he had ever seen who gained all her weight back, it was because she was eating about 5 lbs of peanut M&Ms every day. Not all at the same time but a little bit throughout the course of the day.
So I think about that and my inner voice says that I need to get a handle on this because it's just a little now but it has the potential to grow into a bigger problem as time goes on. And if it's hard to handle now, how much more difficult will it be then?
Wish me luck!

Hey Amber, great to meet you. I read your post on RMAP that you went to Amsterdam? Cool! I love to travel. Good luck on those last 40 pounds! You will get there. I, too, am hoping to have Dr. Simper as my surgeon, any thoughts on him you'd like to share?

Dude... Carly seriously banned you for that!? I didn't read the story or anything because I've been off the radar...but that's super lame! When did all that shizz go down?
***Edit:
By the way... I'm Amber. From Northern Darkness, Utah. Had surgery April 08. Currently battling the last 40. And it is a horrid fight.
***Edit numero 2:
I just read about all the RMAP board drama in your other post Sean. Sorry that she banned ya.

All of the surgeons over at RMAP are amazing. Dr. Steven Simper, Dr. Sherman Smith and Dr. Rodney McKinley. You are in good hands with any of them. If you choose RMAP, however, and they are a good choice, watch out for Dr. Smith's nurse, Carly. She is unbelievably rude.
Also keep in mind that RMAP charges a $500 educational fee. It's well worth it if you attend the support meetings after surgery but something to keep in mind if you are not in any of the areas (really SLC).
But all in all, success with this surgery is mostly about the surgeon and you can't go wrong with any of them at RMAP.

Hi. I'm Sean and I'm a recovering food addict. I had my surgery with Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians in April 2007 at the weight of 474.1 lbs. I currently weight 224.2 lbs. Roex-En-Y Gastric Bypass has worked wonders for me and my surgeon, Dr. Sherman Smith is someone I would recommend to anyone. Picking the correct surgeon is the #1 most important thing. I was fortunate that my mother had worked as an anesthesiologist for over 30 years in the SLC area and was able to poll the nurses she had worked with on who they recommended as a surgeon. She was told Dr. Smith and Dr. McKinley over at RMAP were two of the best.
If you've read my other forum on here, you'll know that Dr. Smith's nurse, Carly, also banned me from their message support board. I was banned because I posted a true story about her rudeness, something I've found many people have had issues with. I truly believe RMAP needs to work on their customer service skills. Some of the nurses and front office staff there are wonderful but they could do such a better job. It's too bad that telling them that causes them (Carly) to feel threatened and the need to ban people from posting.
Anyway, I'm now on to figuring out the plastic surgery portion of my journey. WLS has changed my life and I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to have it (despite the fact that insurance doesn't seem to see the benefits). My blood pressure is 117/71 instead of 136/94, my cholesterol has dropped from 244 to 176 (HDL, LDL, and Triglycerides are all good), and so on. But most of all I enjoy being able to get my laundry from the basement and being able to jog up the stairs and not feel like I'm having a coronary.
Great to see you all here. Pictures of my journey are on my blog at www.seanstransformation.blogspot.com

Thanks. It shocks me still every time I look in the mirror. If you had told me back in March or April 2007 that I would find myself in January 2009 having lost that much weight, I would have thought you were crazy. Wearing XL instead of 7/8XL; 36 waist instead of 58... the transformation has been incredible.
BTW, I see that you deleted your other post. I can understand why. To answer your question though, there's only one Carly at RMAP and the consensus seems to agree, she's rude.
Thanks again for your post. I hope to hear from you again here or on my blog.

Topic: Dr. Steven Simper
Hi,
I had my surgery on January 9, 2009 by Dr. Steven Simper and he was GREAT!!!! I had minimal pain after surgery (gas). I was up walking around two hours after surgery and my incisions are beautiful. I would highly recommend him to anyone. He is with Rocky Mountain Associated Physicans and I also Loved RMAP. Good luck with anyone who is considering Dr. Simper. He's GREAT!!!!!

Hey Aggie, great to meet you! It sounds like you have been through more than your share of "no fun". I hope you can get the remaining issues resolved so you can start feeling good about your weight loss and get onto the job of living!
Kerry on this board lives in Southern Utah, I'm lucky (?) enough to live in the ever growing Salt Lake valley and am very lucky to have a surgeon in this area that does the surgical procedure of my choice.
Hope to learn more about you.
Maria
